The trial ended a couple months ago I believe so It's in the judges hand at this point. I think he has like 90 days to make a ruling. Even then it's fully expected both sides will appeal whatever the decision is. I'm not sure if the judge has the authority to force the sale of the team or not though. Because if not these Boston bozos are going to be with for the foreseeable future.

Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Twins are expected to submit a bid for Japanese infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka this week.
"We're well aware of him," said Twins general manager Bill Smith. Christensen classifies the team's chances as "slim," but the 26-year-old Nishioka could be a fit at either shortstop or second base. J.J. Hardy is a potential non-tender candidate, so if the Twins won the bid and signed Nishioka, Alexi Casilla would likely be the other starting middle infielder. Nov. 17 - 9:07 am et

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was named AL Manager of the Year, while Padres manager Bud Black was named NL Manager of the Year. Black defeated Reds manager Dusty Baker by 1 vote, while Gardenhire easily won the AL vote. It's Gardenhire's first win as Manager of the Year after being runner-up 5 times.

Ron Gardenhire didn't do anything special this year, we just weathered a few injuries and won the division like usual. Silly voters.

I wouldn't say any particular AL manager stuck out this year as doing an incredible job. My vote probably would have gone to Gardenhire too.

I didn't really keep tabs on the Twins at all this year, but did Gardenhire really do anything different this year than in previous years? Were there any significant injuries that he somehow successfully managed (haha) to overcome, to lead the Twins to the playoffs?

Was Buck Showalter even eligible? Until he took over, I imagine every AL team (with the exception of the Mariners) looked at their games against the O's as guaranteed wins, and Buck seemed to change that.

Although he did lose them their #1 pick in the draft.

Minnesota seems like an odd place for a Japanese player to go. Typically they seem to sign with west or east coast teams in cities with a significant Asian population.

We lost Justin Morneau and were 3 games back in the division then rallied to win the AL Central but then we choked against the Yankees in the ALDS.

I'm anxious for the AL Cy Young announcement today. It seems like it will either be CC Sabathia (21-7) or Felix Hernandez (13-12). No starting pitcher has ever won the Cy Young with less than 15 wins, but Hernandez also had by far the worst offense supporting him while CC had by far the best offense. Felix led the AL in ERA, innings pitched, quality starts, and was one strikeout shy of the major league lead. His 2.27 ERA is almost a full run better than CC's 3.18 and he had 35 more strikeouts and 10 more innings pitched. It's certainly going to be an interesting decision.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson is hoping to announce a new manager Tuesday.
That's not a deadline or anything, but the Mets should have all of their interviews out of the way by then and enough time for processing. Chip Hale and Bob Melvin chatted with Mets officials Wednesday and Wally Backman and Terry Collins will get the same treatment Thursday. Those are the four finalists for the position. As of now, there is no clear front-runner. Nov. 17 - 10:32 pm et

I would give it to David Price. I don't think Hernandez deserves it, and CC's numbers just aren't as good as Price's. DP also beat CC head-to-head twice in September when it counted the most.

Twins signed manager Ron Gardenhire to a two-year contract extension.
Gardenhire was named the American League's Manager of the Year on Wednesday afternoon and rewarded with an extended commitment Wednesday night. He led the Twins to a second straight American League Central crown this past season and boasts a stellar 803-656 career managerial record. His entire staff was also re-upped for two years. Yankees reportedly offered Jeter a 3-year, $63 million deal.

Jeter turned it down.

I lost some respect for him. I didn't think he'd be the kind of guy to holdout with the Yankees, and he wouldn't get anywhere near $21m/yr from any other team.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that Javier Vazquez has emerged as the Marlins' primary target.
Stark writes that the Marlins plan to use the money saved from the Dan Uggla trade on a starting pitcher. It would appear that those funds might be a bit limited after this week's addition of John Buck, but they apparently have Vazquez and Carl Pavano on their wish list. Pavano is reportedly seeking a deal similar to the three-year, $33 million contract Ted Lilly recently signed with the Dodgers, so Vazquez will come at a cheaper price off a down season. The Nationals, Rockies, Cardinals and Cubs have also expressed interest in the veteran right-hander. Nov. 18 - 10:55 am et

I'm not surprised he turned it down. He's made it clear he wants a long-term deal of at least 4 years and preferably 5-6 years. If Jeter were to listen to other teams I don't think he could get more than a 3-year deal, and it certainly wouldn't be near $21 million per year. In the end there's no question Jeter will remain with the Yankees. No team will offer near the money and his advertising value would take a huge blow if he left New York, so the only question is who caves on the length of the deal.

Guy's just greedy, surprised more Yankees fans aren't upset about it, his bat will only get worse this year and his defense has become a joke.

I don't think it's greed, he just knows the Yankees will eventually cave. Why take a 3-year offer when you know you can get 4 or 5? Jeter is still one of the better fielding shortstops. He didn't deserve the Gold Glove, Texas' Elvis Andrus was a much better fielder, but he's still one of the better fielding AL shortstops, but I agree his defense is only going to get worse. I think it's understood that in a couple years he's going to have to move to the outfield.
