I lost some respect for him. I didn't think he'd be the kind of guy to holdout with the Yankees, and he wouldn't get anywhere near $21m/yr from any other team.
That's absolutely ridiculous. Jeter probably couldn't get $15 mill per year from any other team and certainly not for more than 3 years. Even the 3 year $63 mill offer isridiculously high. I'll bet the Yankees do cave and give him 5 years for around $100 mill in the end.

Felix wins the Cy Young, and deservedly so. No other pitcher in the AL is close, and the writers got it correct.

Nice win for Hernandez, glad to see CC Sabithia didn't win it.

Good to see they got it right. It's not Relix's fault he's on a crap team with no run support. Also good to see Price beat Sabathia. I'm so sick of seeing voters value wins over ERA. Price had a much better ERA than Sabathia.

Glad to see even if it hadn't been Hernandez, it at least would've been Price.

Rangers president Nolan Ryan told Brian Costa of the Wall Street Journal that he expects the Yankees to outbid the Rangers for Cliff Lee.
Ryan said that the Rangers will try to sell the appeal of Texas, but Costa writes that he "didn't sound confident." He has reason to worry. The Yankees appear determined to sign Lee, so the Rangers will probably draw the line at a certain price. Nov. 18 - 12:52 pm et

And it absolutely shouldn't have been close. Hell, Felix still got one fifth place vote, which is absurd. But in the end, as a group they absolutely got it right, including the margin of victory for Felix. No other pitcher in the AL was as dominant as Felix was this year.

No, i wouldnt say hes greedy as much as hes smart... he knows the Yanks are going to give him more years... and i assume the guys just wants to play ball for 5 years guarenteed... and go from there after that...

You are right there. I'd be shocked if the Yankees don't fold and give him what he wants. Not sure why they would though considering they have the upper hand. Nobody else is going to give him more than 3 years and likely not for >$15 mill per year much less 20 mill. If I were running the Yankees I'd call his bluff. But I doubt ownership has the backbone.

Michael Kay (the Yankees broadcaster) was a guest on the Scott Van Pelt show (ESPN Radio) and said he thinks the Yankees will probably go up to 4, after a bit of negotiating, but if Jeter keeps insisting on 5 (he reportedly wants 5 or 6), things could get pretty ugly.

He also says he thinks Jeter would only get about $10-12m per year on the open market.

I think A-Rod's contract is a big part of why Jeter is being such a stickler. I think it'd bother him to know A-Rod is under contract with the Yankees longer than he is, and it's not as much about the money.

He's smart, greedy and selfish. How can he possibly think his future 40yr old body could help his team?

My guess is they might raise a bit of a fuss. But I'll bet they'd blame Jeter as much as the organization since any real baseball fan can plainly see he's asking a ridiculous price that he's not remotely deserving of. I imagine by opening day it would more or less a footnote if he left, especially if the Yankees land a few big free agents.

The same old argument was made when the Packers parted ways with Brett Favre and guess what? The fans got over it and still rooted for the team two seconds later. I'll bet Yankee fans would do the same. They strike me as more of a bunch that roots for the team and not so much the players.

see, a few things come to mind... first, its the yankees and when is money ever an issue? and there is no way Jeter leaving would be a footnote. dont get me wrong, the fans would still go out and root for the yankees but it wouldnt be forgotten that easily....i thinks this is more about length than it is about money though

If the Yankees are willing to throw 21 million at a mediocre SS what in the world are they going to throw at Cliff Lee?? How long until we see a 250-300 million dollar Yankee payroll?

the more money the Yanks waste on an over the hill shortstop.. Means the less money they have to sign other key free agents....
