Probably not long considering the oddity that is MLB "finances."

I'd love it if they overpay Jeter and pass on a more valuable long-term investment like Crawford.

I'd love it also but we all know it's only another 3-4 years at the most before New York buys themselves another championship.

Done with the sport and done caring a lot about whether or not my team wins are two different things. I'm just a lot more indifferent towards my team than before.

Cracking on a team with a fraction of the payroll your team has in a small market. Real gutsy. Actually both teams failed to win the championship this season. Only difference is your team has what, 4x the payroll?

Pretty much the case for everyone. MLB is in the toilet in many ways. Their TV ratings are a disaster. More people watch regular season Monday Night Football than watch World Series games. MLB is basically filler time until football and basketball season.

It's a tough comparison, and I don't think the NBA is doing great right now anyway. If the NBA playoffs were in October/November, I imagine they'd lose to the NFL too.

MLB had a record year for revenue in 2010, so it's not like they're really hurting. The playoff ratings might be a cause for concern, but purely as businesses, MLB teams will always have a good shot at making money, when they get at least 81 home games to bring it in.

MLB can't do anything about the NFL, because I think it's just the nature of the schedules, and the way the game is played (256 regular season games in an entire NFL season, compared to a single team's 162 in baseball).

The LDS are complete garbage. My interest with MLB greatly diminished when they expanded it to six divisions with a Wild Card. That effectively killed the once great playoff races.

Football is def king of all sports and no way any other sport can compete, Baseball is def second but far behind NFL, and far ahead of the NBA & the NHL.. hell id put Hockey over the NBA if anything... higher attendance figures proves that...

Like Toef said although TV ratings might be a disaster... attentance and revenue has never been higher than where it is right now for MLB

I guess so. It's possible that I'm biased here since I live in Florida where practically nobody goes to MLB games and even our NBA and NHL teams draw better crowds and get more press than out MLB teams. I know there are old cities like New York and Boston where people still care about baseball.

Not here in California.. Baseballs very popular here ... Not sure about the A's & Padres but Giants have gone over 3 million+ attendance 8 out of the past 10 years... and the other 2 years were 2.8 million +... thats alot of tickets sold

I think even the Dodgers & Angels have one of the highest attendance as well...

Chad your def right about Florida not caring about baseball... they are bottom 20 in attendance figures.. here are the stats..

http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance

Helps that we have 5 teams, but California alone has counted for 13,400,742 tickets sold...
