Sox ace Josh Beckett starts off the year with 7 innings, one run (score 5-1 when he left), two hits, ten strikeouts and the 5-3 "W". Relievers Okajima & Masterson were a little shakey. Papelbohn recorded a Save and allowed no baserunners.

Great start for the loooong season!

No doubt! And Dustin Pedroia, homers his first time up - awesome. Nice to see Varitek homer already also (I think he only had 13 HRs all last season).

I was saying the same thing in the 9th lol. That BJ Ryan is useless now. What kind of closer comes in and throws 87MPH with no movement! Tommy John Surgery ruined him.

I wouldn't think this would be a big deal. He didn't say anything too mean, or even untrue for the most part. The funny thing is some New Yorkers don't care about his drunk driving, but might get mad about these comments.

and that was one of the best opening days I've seen great start to a season having the players come thru the stadium awsome!

I'm happy that the Braves are doing well all around. The pitching, the hitting and the defense is great right now.

Angels starting pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed last night in a hit-and-run, hours after pitching 6 scoreless innings in his fourth ML start. Very sad, as he was only 22. Nothing yet on any of the sports sites, it was TMZ that broke the story. 2 other people in the car with Adenhart also died.

Story says they already did and charged him with felony hit and run. I'm sure there will be some sort of vehicular homicide charge as well.

Was shocked when i saw this on tmz then went to other sites but nothing had been posted but now espn, yahoo and sportsline are confirming the breaking news. He was so young and had a bright future. Pitched a great game last night. Prayers go out to the family.
