Bad luck once again... they had to sign him to that contract or he would have walked soon at the time, he was amazing in 2006 and 2007. Not so much afterwards.

He's a good player, decent numbers but lacks intesnity at times, very shy player, afriad to get his hands dirty and get in the crowd for a ball for example.

Because of the size of his contract... goood move by the Jays. Outfielders with his 2008 and 2009 numbers are a dime a dozen.

Hopefully we can also get rid of Overbay's money as well before too long.

WIth Rios, Rolen gone and hopefully Overbay, that's some huge savings for a SS and Catcher. Too bad we are still paying for BJ Ryan, but that was total bad luck... never came back to himself after TJ surgery

Anyway... enough disappointing season for a true blue fan since 1985.

Here's an article that details how much Ricciardi has overpayed players. I'll be curious if Ricciardi is on the hot seat. He's in his 8th year as GM and the team hasn't made the playoffs and he has signed players to some very poor salaries. Granted, he is in the hardest division in baseball but the team has spent money and never been within 10 games of a division title during his tenure. I don't think he'd be fired after this season but I believe his contract is up after next season so the team better show some signs of improvement.

They have to overpay. Same as the Raptors in Basketball. Who wants to play in another country? They have to overpay if they want someone to play there and that goes the same if they let them move the Bills to Canada. That would be an awful mistake.

The Dodgers appear to be floundering. Their starting pitching is a disaster right now outside of Kershaw. I think not trading for Cliff Lee was a big mistake for them and will give the Phillies a very good chance of returning to the World Series. The NL wild card winner is going to end up being the Rockies. They do not have a lot of big stars but solid depth and are a well-balanced team.

JP is not a popular name in TO thats for sure... he did not spend wisely... we have a decent payroll on Toronto... he's jus not spending it wisely and making the fans very impatient... mind you there was some bad luck with guys like BJ Ryan but we miss the playoffs and the sold out crowds of the past

This post focuses on Chicago...

Checked the standings last weekend, Cubs tied for the division. Watched the game last night, they got crushed, fan throws a beer on Victorino (and wrong fan gets booted), and now they're 4 out.

Meanwhile on the South side, Alex Rios debuted with an impressive 1-for-6 with 2 strikeouts.

I don't even know what the Cubs deal is right now. Their offense hasn't been horrible (hasn't been great) but the pitching and defense has been poor. It seems their post-All Star resurgence was in large part due to the return of Aramis Ramirez but now he's hurt again. Hurts not having a legit 5th starter with Zambrano out, it doesn't look like Samardzija or Sean Marshall is the answer. Hopefully they can do better their next 2 series against San Diego and Pittsburgh or they might find themselves in a deep hole.

God I couldn't stand being a hardcore cubs fan they continue to get debilitating injuries to players year after year. I remember Kerry Wood and Mark Prior both just ravaged by injuries.

You can put a lot of blame on Wood and Prior's injuries on the managers, as they both pitched way too many innings early in their careers and that played a big part in their injuries. Teams learned from this and are much more cautious now with inning counts for their young pitchers, like the Joba rules, or even the Cubs right now by keeping an eye on Randy Wells innings pitched.

Looks pretty bad IMO, not to mention the Phill's scored 12 fricking runs.

yeah I'll give him props coming back in the middle of the year if he can bump it to 6 and 2 he'll be good to go or even 5 and 2.

I hope the Chicago police catch the person who threw a beer at Shane Victorino last night. That was just a busch league move. I've sat in the bleachers at Wrigley before and know it gets rowdy but you never throw things at the players. I would expect someone will turn the guy in because there is very clear pictures and video of him throwing the beer.

MLB Trade Rumors reported that Alex Rios was not well liked as a player in the Jay's clubhouse... he quote had poor work ethic and a lack of desire to win.

Just as I thought by watching it not go after balls in deep right fild at Fenway... scared of the crowd!

The Sox just got shortstop Alex Gonzalez from the Reds. He was with the Sox back in 2006. A darn good shortstop, bottom of the order bat, though.
