Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Giants have "become one of the most serious suitors" for Rays shortstop Jason Bartlett.
The Cardinals were in the mix but landed Ryan Theriot from the Dodgers on Tuesday and plan to start him at shortstop next season. Bartlett is 31 and batted just .254 with a .324 on-base percentage in 2010. But the Giants have a hole at shortstop with Edgar Renteria retiring and Juan Uribe signing elsewhere. That's what I was wondering too, Tejada is 36 though so he's probably just depth.

their not going to pay him $6.5 mil for depth.. at age 36 thats every day starter money... can he hold up is the question ... I actually wanted Tejada at the trade deadline.. so im actually hoping this turns out good

Hold up? I believe he played in something like 900 consecutive games at one point in his career. He hasn't missed more than a few dozen games his entire career.

oh i know about his history and game streak.. im only saying that because Giants Shortstops always seem to get injured...

Tejada was clutch for SD. I think this is a good replacement for Uribe.

The Twins already have over $70 million in salaries for next year, and will likely be over $100 million by the time they sign players and settle with arbitration-eligible players. They are going to try and re-sign JJ Hardy and the Japanese player they won the rights to and both of them will be over $5 million per year. Francisco Liriano and Delmon Young will likely be getting $4-$5 million in arbitration, and Matt Capps could be looking at $7-$8 million. The Twins will be in the top 10 for payroll next year.

I GUESS they deserve it since they were one of only 8 play-off teams.

This card is real, but it's nothing new.

It was part of Topps' 2009 Heritage series, and the error was intentional, as a sort of throwback to the days when mistakes like this really happened.

The Giants have re-signed outfielder Pat Burrell to a one-year deal, according to Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle (via Twitter). While the terms of the deal are not yet known, it will be incentive-laden, tweets Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com tweets

Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News was the first to report that a deal may have been struck between the two sides. Burrell's deal will be for significantly less than the $9MM he earned last season. No need to cry for Burrell though: according to Baseball Reference, Pat the Bat has earned nearly $70MM over the course of his 11-year big league career.

According to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com, the Red Sox plan to non-tender Hideki Okajima.
Okajima earned $2.75 million this past season while posting a 4.50 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 33/20 K/BB ratio over 46 innings, easily his worst season since arriving stateside in 2007. Adam Dunn signs with the Whitesox

The sides agreed to a four-year, $56MM deal, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (on Twitter). The Nationals will obtain Chicago's 23rd overall pick in next year's draft for losing a Type A free agent after offering arbitration.

$14 million a year is a LOT for someone who just hits for the pitcher, I hope for their sake he hits at least .350 and gets at least 40 HRs and 100+ RBIs. For the Twins' sake, I hope he tanks miserably.

I expected Dunn to come to Chicago, but as the Cubs first baseman. I am actually glad the Cubs didn't sign him. They need to stay quiet this offseason and let some of their horrible contracts expire. They don't need to take on any new big money deals.

You know you want them to have another Kerry Wood fiasco, don't think the Cubs will be contenders for 3-4 years at least anyway.

Check his stats. Besides Pujols there's not another more consistent 35-40 HR 100 RBI hitter than Dunn. And he's already made it clear he doesn't want to DH. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen. I personally thought he would do better than this contract.

Makes one wonder why he's not in the MVP talk then, as a Twins fan I hope to see his numbers take a huge hit this year.
