It appears as if the framework is in place for the Sox to sign Gonzalez to a 7 year, $154M($22M/season) contract extension for the 2012-2018 seasons. He is being paid $6.2M in 2011.

Harold Reynolds has lost his mind calling that Werth deal a great signing.

This was briefly mentioned earlier, but the Orioles have traded for 3B Mark Reynolds from the Diamondbacks for 2 relievers. He has 121 home runs in 4 seasons but has struck out at least 200 times in 3 seasons, with a major league record 223 strikeouts in 2009. Reynolds was a .198 hitter last year and now enters the brutal AL East.

Yep and we lost the few marginal pitchers we had laying around.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that at least one team is willing to extend a seven-year offer to Cliff Lee.
Rosenthal isn't sure which team it is. He originally listed the Yankees as the most obvious choice, but it apparently will not be them. The Nationals loomed as a potential darkhorse, but they've already made their outlandish offer to Jayson Werth. The Rangers reportedly only wanted to offer four years initially, so going to seven years would be quite a jump. Perhaps there's a surprise team that will overwhelm him with a big offer? Stay tuned. just a little hint that the Red Sox and Cliff Lee have "talked"....still think he will be back with the Rangers, but just another big market team throwing their hat into the ring.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Red Sox are just trying to drive up Lee's price so the Yankees can't afford to also sign Carl Crawford, and thereby driving down Crawford's price if the Yankees aren't among the interested teams. I would be absolutely shocked if Lee didn't end up with the Rangers or Yankees.

Your probably right, I would imagine the Red Sox's actual target is probably Crawford

They don't need another left-handed bat. Particularly not if the Yankees add another left handed pitcher to their rotation.

One idea that I've had, which isn't going to happen, is for the Sox to bring back Manny to play left field.

I just hope for the Rangers sake, they don't go the 6 or 7 yr contract with Lee. For a pitcher that is already 32, that is a big risk and I would hate for them to take that big of a risk. 4 or 5 years yes, but I hope they don't go any longer for him.

with the prospects they sent away in the Gonzales deal, could they still make a run at Justin Upton from the D-Backs, since he appears to be available?

He really isn't reports are coming out that Towers (gm of AZ) has said its unlikely he'll "leave the desert" due to the Reynolds trade.

Man O's still in talks for J.J. I hope they get that done

NATS IN ON LEE/MAY THROW 7 YRS...LINK

Twitter:

- "Source: #nats "very much'' in on cliff lee. Rumor is they may throw out 7 year offer.
about 1 hour ago via web"

- "RT @AdamKilgoreWP That buzz that #Nats are going seven years on Cliff Lee? "Not happening," a team source said. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nat..._cliff_le.html
32 minutes ago via web"

- "Don't completely rule out Cliff Lee signing with the Nats, or team and agent continuing dialogue. The 7-year offer, though, won't be made.

What is kinda interesting, is that Cliff Lee used to be one of our top prospects before MLB gave him away along with Grady Sizemore.

lol two epic failures... I still think Lee isn't the answer for us in the DC metro area, They still won't have Stras and Lee is only getting older they'll be lucky if 3 of those years are anything like what he's produced recently.

It still is nice to have an owner that is worth about $3 Billion though.

Possible? Yes, but unlikely. The Sox would most likely have to include Bard or Iglesias and possibly both. I'm not sure they are ready to trade either of them.
