Yeah, the Twins late owner Carl Pohlad was worth $2.6 billion when he died but was very stingy, and even tried to get the team contracted by having the league buy the team for $150 million. Now that his son is running the team and they have a new stadium they're finally spending money.

When RFK Stadium was built in Washington DC in 1961, the team's owner Calvin Griffith did not like the idea of paying rent in the new park plus sharing concession revenues with the city, so he picked up the Team and moved them to Minneapolis where they promised him free rent and concessions. Now before the move, the Washington Senators played in the Team owned 'Griffith Stadium' where they obviously did not pay any rent and had all the concession revenues.

So they may be the only team in sports history, where when the Team got a brand new stadium to play in, it thus forced them to move out of town.

Who would have thunk it? Huh?

The Yankees are supposedly going to make a six-year offer to Cliff Lee today in the $140-$150 million range per Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. Lee supposedly has received two seven-year offers in the $20 million per year range from unidentified teams.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the White Sox have agreed to a three-year contract with Paul Konerko.
ESPNChicago.com reports that he'll received $37.5 million over the length of the contract, so it looks like he'll get a slight raise in annual salary from the $12 million he made in 2011. Not bad for someone who turns 35 in March. White Sox general manager Ken Williams was pessimistic about reaching an agreement on Tuesday, but the process moved only quickly after chairman Jerry Reinsdorf got involved in negotiations. I would assume it's the Rangers, unless the Angels have changed their philosophy about contracts longer than six years.

Unless a team bus crashes or something, the 2011 Red Sox are going to win over 100 games. The best lineup in baseball just added Carl Crawford for 7-years at $142 million. That basically forces the Yankees to have to get Cliff Lee, who were viewing Crawford as their backup option if they did not get Lee, or they will be a distant second.

Hats off to Theo, that lineup is absolutely scary, even from a historical perspective.

Is there any way Boston could get Cliff Lee too, that would pretty much end New York's chances of winning the AL East next year.

I don't see it bud. I doubt they're ready to drop another 130+ million even the yankees didn't do that not to mention if Gonzalez has any kind of season thats an easy 120+ right there so between those three even at a cheap rate your looking at 392 and the preliminary offer on Lee is 140 I think so I'm being generous at 130.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles are nearing a trade for Twins infielders J.J. Hardy and Brendan Harris.
The Twins are expected to get two pitchers in return, with Connolly naming Brett Jacobson and Jim Hoey. But it's not a sure thing yet that those are the two involved. Minnesota has felt a need to move Hardy this winter in order to avoid the nearly $7 million salary hit that they're going to take via his arbitration eligibility. I hate the Red Sox but I hate the Yankees even more, nice to see the Red Sox do something like this to try to stick it to the Steinbrenners.
