yeah lol but if they have a great ss then I think they can handle not having a decent bat at the bottom.

Yeah I'm with ya, I like it! Lowrey has been injured and Green has been inconsistent. I just hope that Gonzalez is 100% healthy.

What a depressing game. I hope Kuroda is ok. That was really nasty coming off his head.

Dodger pitching is not looking good these days. Even Kershaw is beginning to show his age in inexperience. I swear sometimes he couldn't hit the strike zone if he was throwing a basketball. I read Kuroda was released from the hospital with no serious injury, so we'll see how he rebounds. Their bullpen is just sucking bigtime as of late. And they have no fricking 5th pitcher. I'm starting to sweat at the thought of the playoff's.

Today is deadline day for signing draft picks. Going to be really interesting to see if the Nationals can get Strasburg signed. They say they are offering record money and want to get him signed. If they get him signed he could be big-league ready by opening day 2010. It'd be dumb of him to not sign. He'll get the most money, and it beats playing another year for San Diego State, or going to Japan or an independent league team, plus it's likely the Nationals will end up with the worst record and could pick him again next year. I'm sure we won't know if he signs until right at the midnight deadline. Boras doesn't like his clients signing until seconds before the deadline.

He would be downright stupid not to sign, he will get a big payday regardless if he doesn't get what he's asking for.

With the economy the way it is and the injury concerns that young pitchers carry, he needs to sign asap.

The same with Crow, has he never heard about Matt Harrington?

Every player that chooses not to sign based on money should be required to watch the Outside the Lines episode on Matt Harrington. Below is a link of all the first round picks signing status. I'm surprised the Royals drafted Crow since his demands were so high last year and they are a small market team. It's believed third pick Donavan Tate is going to sign. He is also a top high school quarterback that signed a letter of intent with North Carolina and went to some practices last week but left because they felt a deal was near.

Its funny I really don't know how much baseball contracts are like NFL ones where you can give him the 56 million but if he doesn't pan out or gets hurt he'll only keep a certain amount. But I do hope they sign him.

Baseball contracts are completely guaranteed, so if someone signs and turns out to be a flop the team is out all the money. The success rate of baseball draft picks is also very low and a lot of first round picks will never make the pros so you don't want to invest as much money in prospects. There really is no such thing as a can't miss prospect in baseball. The change from high school or college to the pros is huge, in large part because of the change in metal bats to wood.

The Rays have announced that they have cut off talks with number 30 pick Levon Washington and will not attempt to sign him. They said they gave him an offer they believed was fair for a late first round pick and he declined it. Washington was "advised" by Scott Boras and will now go to the University of Florida. The Rays also said they will not sign their second round pick, Kenny Diekroeger, but he was not expected to sign and will attend Stanford.

The Yankees signed their first round compensation pick, Slade Heathcott, giving him a $2.2 million signing bonus. Heathcott was prepared to go to LSU so the Yankees had to pay a greater than normal bonus, particularly because they would not have received any compensation if they failed to sign him because it was a compensatory pick.

Strasburg signed a 4 year, $15 million deal with the Nationals. Seems pretty fair for both sides. Strasburg gets 50% more than any pick in history, and the Nationals don't pay anywhere near the $50 million figure Boras talked about. In the end only first round picks didn't sign, and the deadline didn't apply to Aaron Crow because he has exhausted his college eligibility.

Yeah he'd have been so dumb to not take the 15 because even if he busts he should be set for life, and if he pans out he'll make CC money.

I'm glad football season is getting started because I'm through with the Cubs. They've lost 9 of their last 12, and 2 of their 3 wins were against the Pirates. If they don't get going the Cardinals are going to run away with the division. I don't know why the Cubs thought Kevin Gregg was a good acquisition to be their closer. He led the league in blown saves last year. The Cubs are frustrating.

Haven't the Cubs been frustrating since 1908?
