ive heard russel's name floating around but i honestly dont know much about him.... and Wood is a mid reliever, so in comparison to Lee.... no, there is no one of his calibur that we are eying that would help our lineup much
and with Pettitte most likely gone.... Burnett had better have a good year |

Cliff Lee Rumors: Monday
By Tim Dierkes [December 13 at 3:58pm CST] Yesterday we learned that the Nationals are out of the Cliff Lee sweepstakes and that the Yankees will not increase their offer again. Multiple reporters have suggested Lee will decide this week. If you believe in the mystery team, the lefty may have three legitimate suitors. Otherwise, it's just the Yankees and Rangers. The top bullets have the latest: There are still rumblings about a third team, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (on Twitter). The mystery team's offer appears to be significantly lower than the Yankees' proposal, but it's from a place Lee "loves." Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes, "You would be surprised at how many folks [in the game] think there is a legitimate third team bidding on Lee beyond the Yankees and Rangers." Sherman speculates on who that team might be. Less than a third of you believe such a club exists. Lee's agent Darek Braunecker has been in touch with the Yankees today, tweets ESPN's Buster Olney, and he said the process is ongoing. The unidentified third team is only willing to go four or five years, writes George A. King III of the New York Post. Taken from : http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ |

Russel Martin was near the top of the crop of catchers in 2007 but has severely regressed in each of his last three years. It's widely believed that Joe Torre ran him into the ground overusing him to the tenth degree. This past year he suffered a freak hip injury which some have compared to Bo Jackson's injury. Anyone signing Russel is taking a gamble seeing how his injury can't bode well for a catcher.

Mixing the Phillies in makes things more interesting. I'd think that Texas is now 3rd out of the three teams.
I've read others say that the longer this drags on, the less likely it seems like he's going to the Yankees, but I think it's actually the other way around. If he's turning down the Yankees, it's because he doesn't care about the money, and why else would someone hold out other than to drive up the offers? Yankees win if he cares about money. Phillies win if he doesn't. But who knows. Maybe he feels burned by the Phillies, and actually wouldn't want to go back. |

![]() Yep, from MLBRumors- Phillies Agree To Sign Cliff Lee By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 13, 2010 at 10:54pm CST] The wait is over. Cliff Lee has agreed to sign with the Phillies, according to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan. The deal is worth about $100MM over five years, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post (on Twitter). After months of rumors that suggested he'd sign with the highest bidder, Lee turned down tens of millions in guaranteed money to sign in Philadelphia. ESPN.com's Buster Olney hears the Yankees offered a deal that guaranteed Lee $138MM over six years, plus a $16MM player option for a seventh year (Twitter link). Lee, Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels should give the Phillies a historically good rotation and the Yankees and Rangers will have to look elsewhere for an ace. The Phillies traded Lee away a year ago this week in the deal that brought Halladay to Philadelphia. _________________________ |
