You have to remember they had a ton of injuries both in the rotation and in the field, and if their pitching is on it can compete with anyone.

Frankly I'd have rather the Yankees got Lee then the him go there

And if Pap, and Lester are on as-well thats WS right there, not to mention if Matsuzaka shows up even part time along with Wakefield.

You forget that for much of last season Bard and Bucholz were the Sox' best pitchers.

All things considered, Wakefield should be a spot-starter/long reliever. I would love for him to get the fifth spot in the rotation and make 25+ starts, but his age has caught up with him, in terms of injuries.

Not if their A.J. Burnett (Lackey) and the injury-prone Beckett are in their 2010 form.

No team can overcome major injuries I don't think any team is immune to that. I guess I figured most people would know that Just like If CC, Rivera and Hughes got hurt I wouldn't go haha the yankees suck well... if you take the best 3 pitchers off any team they are bound to be bad.

Pettitte has said he wants to retire a Yankee....

this Lee signing is makin me nautious! i mean, i guess its good hes in the NL again... but to the phillies with that line up... damn...

its gonna be a hell of a year all around... the yanks are def. not the favorites this year at all... which actually might work in their favor playing with less pressure... we will see

Lets remember he was only 7-3 with the Phillies and in 2010 he was 12-9 worse then Hughes. I think its good because now everyone will play up against them just like the Heat in basketball.

And if Hughes improves over last year (18-8) and Burnett can play well you actually are better then you were when you won a world series.

Yeah I know that along with everyone else, but the operative word is injury-PRONE. Every team has injuries, yes, but there are players who consistently have health problems.

Martin will be the starting catcher. Montero, Romine and Cervelli will be competing for the back up role. I do agree I hope he can turn thing around (off year in 09 and injured 2010).

Thats true, but the Yankees aren't exactly in a bad spot if people step up Burnett needs to play to the level of his contract, Hughes is up and coming CC is solid and if Pettite comes back.

CC
Hughes
Burnett
Pettite

Not bad.

Sucks for Yanks and their fans, they couldnt get any of the top tier free agents.... I def see a trade coming in the near future...

He didn't. He's making $1M/season more in Philadelphia than any of the other offers. If you include the buyout of the sixth year, that's $132M/5 years. With the option it's $147.5M/6 years.

The Yankees offer was $132M/6 years, or $148M/7 years. Lee is essentially getting the same money over shorter years.

actually he did... look at your numbers above... he could of made $32mil or $48mil more with the Yanks... No way after 5 years a team will offer him that much money to play..

oh dont get me wrong... its not like the Yankees are a bad team, theyre still the Yankees... but our pitching is very questionable right now and i would expecta trade to happen at some point... this is our realistic rotation right now..

CC
Hughes
Burnett
Ivan Nova

all indications are that Pettitte is retiring.. although, maybe he will feel obligated to come back now that they didnt get Lee??

and idk who our 5th starter will be

An American League executive told the New York Post's Joel Sherman that the Rangers are likely to join the hunt for free agent Carl Pavano.
Pavano has been waiting for Cliff Lee to sign and will now be courted aggressively as one of the few reliable starters remaining on the open market. The Yanks probably won't touch him, but the Rangers are in the running along with the Twins, Brewers and Nationals. Pavano, 34, posted a 17-11 record, 3.75 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 32 starts for Minnesota this past year in the AL Central. He would do just fine with a move to the AL West. Dec. 14 - 9:47 am et

132M/5 years 132M/6 Years 0M/1Year
147.5M/6 Years 148M/7 Years .5M/1Years
