According to LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Tsuyoshi Nishioka will travel to Minnesota soon for a pre-signing physical.
Nishioka is expected to receive a contract worth about $10 million over three seasons, or $15 million if you want to include the posting fee that the Twins paid to secure exclusive negotiating rights. Neal says the two sides are still working out a few parameters, such as the hiring of an interpreter and an agreement on the number of round-trip flights from Japan to the United States that will be provided by the Twinkies. He is yes, almost seems like Steinbrenner's children aren't interested in throwing lots of money at free agents, Cliff Lee aside.

Well with Cliff Lee it really looks like it didn't come down to money, so the Yankees might have still missed out by offering him an extra $10 mill or so.

It didn't seem like they went after Crawford as hard as they could have though.

Uncertainty with Pettite and being married to Burnett probably makes them a bit hesitant to make a big move at pitcher yet, still think they'll regret throwing enough money to buy a mansion at Jeter.

Yankees management has said over the past few years they arent going to throw money around like they have in the past..... they will still offer money, they were offering Lee a boat load of cash but they are trying to be a bit smarter about it lol

hes the only pickup so far....and i think they would have gone after Crawford had Lee not worked out but Boston came out of nowhere and snagged Crawford, screwing everything up!!! expect a trade at some point for a pitcher

Athletics signed DH Hideki Matsui to a one-year, $4.25 million contract.
The whole thing will be made final at a press conference Tuesday afternoon in Oakland. Matsui should bring a nice element of power to the Athletics' lineup, which lacked exactly that last year and still managed a .500 (81-81) finish. lol the funny thing is both Halladay and Lee are old so it would be funny if they fall off big time in 2-3 years.

I mentioned this later in the post. I know Boston had a ton of injuries, but the Yankees weren't exactly the healthiest team in the league either. They had Austin Kearns playing outfield for almost a month. Who? Exactly.

He's my favorite player on the team, so it's sad to see his career winding down, but he really needs to stop catching. Opposing base-runners were taking advantage of him during the playoffs, and he had a few strike outs in key batting situations. Maybe focusing on his hitting as a DH will be the best way for him to contribute.

Before the Yankees turned him into a catcher, he was actually an infielder, with plus speed. In his first few games back toward the end of the season, he did see to be running a bit faster than normal, though he wasn't exactly back to being a speed-demon.

Most people (including ESPN) are reporting that Lee left as much as $50 million on the table, indicating the Yankees were guaranteeing him at least $170 over 7 years. But those numbers are a bit misleading.

If the Yankees were guaranteeing him $170, then the most he's leaving on the table is more like $37 million.

His contract with the Phillies is actually worth at least $132.5 million, because of the buyout for the 6th year. It's worth $147 if he pitches 200 innings in 2015, or 400 between 2014 and 2015.

In any case, it's nice to see someone actually turn down money.

Unless he wins a few Cy Youngs, there's no way he's getting a 2-yr $50 million contract when he's 37.
