I agree right now its just on paper good like Johnson and Pavano but I think it could be as good as Manny/Ortiz at least at home they showed the ballpark lines he was hitting in and then put Fenway in and good lord there must have been another 10-30 homers that would have gone out at Fenway compared to where he was playing.

I'm confused as to why you think the AL East will be so much more difficult hitting. The Jays and O's have terrible pitching. The Rays and Yankees are pretty good. All in all my guess if Gonzalez will put up at least as good if not better numbers with the Red Sox. He'll also have a better group of guys hitting ahead of him.

Yanks get Russel Martin instead, oh well! They cannot get everywhere!

Hey! O's hitting should improve with their additions, not to mention if Weiters finally comes through.

Arrieta was a monster last year and I hope he can improve drastically, Bergesen I still worry about but I think he is improving as-well, Matusz is our guy, and we still have an average guy in Guthrie.

Matusz
Arrieta
Guthrie
Bergesen

SP is looking as good as its been in awhile we just have zero relief pitching and crappy closing

The AL does not have god like pitching for crying out loud. If Adrien is able to put up his numbers despite the limitations that he's been playing around for his whole career he is going to do just fine in the AL. Seriously you don't think hitting in Fenway rather than Petco is not going to help him? Or having that stacked Boston lineup protecting him rather than freaking Will Venable? Come on dude, you are in complete denial.

With 2010 ERA:

Matusz 4.30
Arrieta 4.66
Guthrie 3.83
Bergesen 4.98

Come on man, those numbers are mediocre at best.

And do you realize how many times those guys took games into the 5th+ inning and the relief pitching would come in and add runs onto their ERA especially Matusz, those numbers aren't actual representations of how they pitched all year, at least in my opinion and thats watching at least 87% of their games (thats allot of crap baseball I got to see ). Berg, Arrieta, and Matusz are all extremely young too.

I can't count how many games Matusz would take into the 6th or 7th and then slow down maybe put 2 men on get pulled and then the crappy relief guy would give up those 2 runs and then blow the chance at a win.

Cliff Lee Signing Reactions

Just 24 hours ago, we didn't know the Phillies were even pursuing Cliff Lee. They've since agreed to sign the left-hander to a five-year deal worth $120MM, and the reactions have been streaming in from around the web. MLBTR's Tim Dierkes pointed out some things we learned about the signing, the fallout for other teams, and some possible fits for Joe Blanton. Here are some other reactions from around the web:

As ESPN.com's Jayson Stark says, "the Phillies had to station themselves strategically just off to the side of Lee's massive stage so that no one ever noticed them." It sure seemed like the Rangers or Yankees would end up signing the left-hander.
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports argues that the Phillies' turnaround should inspire more clubs to operate similarly and says the Rangers, Twins and Nationals are making progress.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post suggests that "though the 2014 Yankees might benefit from not having another high-paid, aging player such as Lee, the 2011 Yankees are sure to be hurt by his absence."
In a separate piece, Sherman argues that the Red Sox and, especially, the Phillies deserve credit for joining the Yankees in the "uber-team" category.
Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports says the offseason starts anew today, since Lee's unavailable and the Yankees and Rangers are among the teams with major needs.
Yahoo's Jeff Passan says Lee is baseball's newest hero, an "antidote for a baseball-viewing public tired of the Yankees throwing around free-agent dollars like toy money."
ESPN.com's Keith Law says there's an opportunity for a GM to capitalize on a pitching-thin market by trading a starter when no one expects it.
Dave Cameron of FanGraphs gives Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. credit for acquiring a top pitcher at the right time.
Newsday's Ken Davidoff calls the deal "mind-blowing," since players so rarely turn away from tens of millions of dollars. As Davidoff says, the Yankees must be crushed, regardless of what they say publicly.

Which is in Africa.

My quote is referencing a movie, but I can't recall which. Dazed and Confused comes to mind, but I couldn't find a corresponding quote on IMDB or Google.

It is used constantly on a radio show in the area I'm from.

Anyone bothered to do the math on payrolls next year? Here were the 2010 payrolls for the Yankees, Red Sox and Phillies.

1. NY Yankees - $206 Mill
2. Boston - $163 Mill
4. Philadelphia - $142 Mill

I'm sure NY will still be #1 in 2011 but the gap should be a good deal narrower over Boston and Philly.
