What is that supposed to mean? If there waa a large quantity of aces available I'd say ya, the Yankees will get by without Lee just fine. But there just aren't. The article mentions guys like Garza, but they cannot sign him on the open market. They'd have to give up significant prospects in a trade, something the Yankees seem increasingly reluctant to do these days.

Not even for a moment but I will say that they are every where as I have said all along, ya know the Philly bashing gets old to an older fan like myself that actually appreciates professional sporting events, D-Bags are every where and it always puts things in a different perspective for all major sports cities.

I will not generalize and usually I dont, I just point out that this shite really does happen every where and the effects are very detrimental to our teams, I mean look where Lee decided to go instead of to the pinstripes, just saying.

Haha, I was mostly joking, but maybe they should. At least they'd get to sign someone finally (although they did get Martin today, so maybe they're closing down the checkbooks).

I realize Crawford is better for scoring runs, so I intentionally presented the stats that made Hall look like the better hitter.

And defense is completely overrated, as far as I'm concerned. Great fielders save how many runs for their team per year? And how many extra RBIs do great hitters get per year?

Pitching > hitting > huuuuuuuuuge space > defense

It was a Phillies fan, after all, that threw up on a little girl at a game. That's a bit worse than spitting, I think (though both are completely uncalled for).

I should've probably thought this out a bit. SF and PHI have the best rotations in baseball, but I still think the AL pitching is better than NL pitching, overall.

I'm not trying to crap on Gonzalez, I'm just not going to fall for the hype until he actually produces. Some people are acting like Boston is the new Murderers' Row because they picked up A-Gon and Crawford. I don't think it's that big of a deal.

~~~~~~
While passing some time, I started to think of what the Yankees could do to make up for their embarrassment (assuming, of course, that there's some embarrassment involved in not being able to "get their guy", or having Lee taken away from them yet again). So...
Felix Hernandez
If the Yankees could somehow work out a deal for him, I think that would create a bit of a shakeup. I know he's only 1 year into his recent 5 year deal, but that doesn't mean the M's won't trade him, if the deal is right. And with the Yankees possibly feeling a need to do something big, the M's might be able to get quite a deal out of them.
Long shot? Yes. Impossible? No.
Not a bad idea. I hadn't really thought of him. My guess is either Seattle would flat out say no or ask for far too much in the was of top prospects for Felix. But for the Yankees they might as well give it a shot. Felix is one of the best starters in baseball.
I would like to add that it is a very exciting time for the Phillies Fans right now as this surely has to be one of the most powerful rotations ever assembled, this will surely help this team be one of the strongest for the next few years and knowing full well that any one or two of these guys can fall off some from their respective dominant play and this whole thing will come to an end, it sure will be awesome for the immediate future. Now back to Football D. Burgess was a nice pickup now to find a linebacker .
Well I'm a Braves fan and I'll just say congrats. It's probably a lot like how I felt back in 1992 when Atlanta signed Maddux to add to an already great starting staff. The Phillies now have starting pitching that is as good or better than the Braves staff of the mid-late 90's.
After what Seattle pulled on the Yankees last season with the Cliff Lee deal, the Yankees will never do business with the M's again.
Seattle is getting theirs lmao first they trade for Lee and get nothing, giving up prospects, they are still recovering for the butt violation the Orioles gave them with the Bedard trade . At least be happy about that
Good point. I'd forgotten about that. I'm not sure what chocked me mre the Rangers snagging Lee out of the blue mid-season or the Phillies landing him when few even knew they were in the running till last night. It did seem like the Mariners were acting a little underhanded with the Lee trade to Texas.
Perhaps, but I think their grudge only lasts until the M's have something new the Yankees want.
As Chad said, it wouldn't hurt the Yankees to test the waters on a Hernandez deal, but the M's would probably ask for a lot.
The Red Sox reportedly tried to trade for Hernandez last year (mid-2009 season) and the Mariners wanted a lot for him. Now coming off a Cy Young season, I suspect they'd want even more.
The main two reasons I don't see the deal happening are:
1) The M's are trying to build a team, and are waiting on a few prospects to develop, and then maybe have a successful Cinderella type season. Trading their ace away would be a set-back to those plans.
2) George Steinbrenner died. If this were a couple years ago, and the Yankees just lost their most sought-after free agent to another team, George would be throwing a fit, and go after a new big signing, regardless of the cost. Cashman, Hank and Hal aren't as reactive, which (in the long run) is probably a good thing.
If the Yankees do a good job scouting, drafting and developing young talent it will definately pay off. It's always a risk trying to build a team from the ground up and the Yankees havn't done much of that since the mid to late 90's. But honestly the Yankees best years (mid 90's-early 00's) happened by developing young talent with a relatively lower payroll. It really seemed like the Yankees went into a bit of a title slump post 2000 when they traded away most of their young talent in favor of often badly overpriced free agents/veterans.
Im a Braves fan as well and that was my first thought as well...hopefully the Braves dont stand pat with the Uggla trade, probably still need another outfield bat.
