FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that Fausto Carmona is garnering plenty of interest on the trade market.
Morosi said it's possible that even more teams have asked about Carmona than Zack Greinke given the Royals' high asking price. He adds that the Indians aren't looking to move Carmona but are in "listen and explore" mode, possibly looking to capitalize on a thin starting pitching market. Morosi thinks the Yankees and Rangers could both be in on Carmona if they're unable to work out a trade for Greinke. Carmona is coming off a solid bounce-back season, posting a 3.77 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 31 starts. Dec. 15 - 1:37 pm et

Many people has stated that the Mussina Yankee deal is possible one of the best (if not the best) deals in the history of free agency.

What I find bizzare is that Vegas odd have the Red Sox have better odds than the Yankees to win the WS in 2011 (the Phillies have the best odds). The RS have a lefty heavy line up (teams are just going to line up 3 lefty starters when they face them and the reason I know this is because this happened to the Yankees in 2008) with only two sure thing starters and a suspect bullpen (outside of Daniel Bard) and even their closer Pap is suspect now and is very close to punching is ticket out of Boston. The Yankees are in the same boat starter wise (CC and Hughes are the only two sure things but if Pettitte returns, it'll make three). If anything, the odds for both teams should be equal. I guess they just jumped on the banwagon based on the signings and didn't look under the surface.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees expect Andy Pettitte to decide within the next few days if he'll pitch in 2011.
Heyman says the Yankees are "cautiously optimistic" about his decision. You can bet the Bronx Bombers will do everything within their power to convince the 38-year-old to come back after they were spurned by Cliff Lee. Pettitte went 11-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 21 starts this past season. Dec. 15 - 3:01 pm et

You mean, improves his bargaining position so that he can demand more money to return.

I don't think so lol Reggie Jackson was better, Catfish Hunter, and maybe B. Williams.

and thats just the Yankees

We aren't even talking FA pickups like Manny for the Sox, Maddux, Bonds, Ichiro, Ortiz, Nolan Ryan, exc.

Best trade ever has to be the Red Sox sending ol' Babe to the hated Yankees, making that one of the most intense rivalries in sports.

The Cubs may need to throw something additional into the mix to get the Yankees to bite. Maybe throw in a year of free big macs for Carlos or something like that.

Over the last 85+ years there hasn't been a real Red Sox-Yankees rivalry for more than maybe 15 different seasons in that stretch. For something to be called a rivalry both teams have to be competitive against one another. The Red Sox have rarely ever been competitive with the Yankees until the past decade or so.

I still find it funny how bad Mussina's luck was.

Yankees win World Series 1998,1999,2000
2001 - Yankees get Mussina
Yankees win zero World Series between 2001-2008
2009 - Mussina retires, Yankees win World Series

That's terrible luck. And Mussina was a decent post-season starter too.

Perhaps a lifetime supply of prozac for him.

At least he played in a WS. Mattingly only made on PO appearance (1995). The Yankees were in the WS in 1981 (lost to the Dodgers). Mattingly came up in 1982 thru 1995 and in 1996, the Yanks went to and won the WS. Now that's bad luck.

You can't look at it that way. It's kind of hard to explain it though.

Carlos is just a terrible teammate and shows up when he feels like it. My gut feeling is that he'd be a disaster for the Yankees. I know Jeter is a great guy for team captain but I'm not sure Dr. Phil could keep Zambrano from an epic blowup.

Most likely is that there's no real leadership in that clubhouse in Chicago. Yankees have plenty of leaders there and have a low tolerance for nonsense. Before anything, they are will sit with him and tell him straight out, "if you f up just once, you're gone". Trust me, if he f's up just once, they'll send him ass home so fast (cut him) he won't know what happened and his MLB career will basically be over because if he would act like that with the Yankees, he'll be like that with any team.

I think it could work both ways. If Lee signed, that might've encouraged Pettitte to come back, because they'd be looking good for another WS run, which might make it worth Pettitte's while to come back for one last year.

Mixed somewhere in there (2001? I think) was the time he was 1 out away (even 1 strike away) from a perfect game, against the Red Sox, in Fenway Park. Could've been amazing.

Some of the Yankee perfect games (or almost-perfect games) have a weird way of connecting themselves.

David Wells went to the same high school as Don Larsen.

David Cone's perfect game came on Yogi Berra Day at Yankee Stadium, in which Don Larsen threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Berra.

And in the game that Mussina ultimately came up short in, David Cone was the SP for the Red Sox.

Update on the Russel Martin deal is that it's a one year deal. Low risk/high reward. Seems like they are planning on Jesus Montero to take over the starting catcher role in 2011 (unless Martin has a monster season and they bring him back and Montero gets dealt).

The one World Series that still blows my mind is the Marlins beating the Yankees in 6 games in 2003. I still have a hard time believing that actually happened. I honestly thought Florida would be lucky to win 1 game that Series. The Yankees were far superior that season in practically every respect. But that's baseball. Sometimes one red hot pitcher (Beckett) can carry a team to a title.
