According to Jack Curry of the YES Network, the Yankees have had internal discussions about free agent Manny Ramirez.
The Yanks are looking for a right-handed bat to add to their bench, but Curry suspects that a deal with Man-Ram is unlikely. He's a poor defensive outfielder and probably won't be a very happy camper if given only limited playing time. At the moment, the Yankees have committed the DH position to Jorge Posada and left field to Brett Gardner. There simply aren't enough at-bats to go around. I cannot imagine the Yankees would actually sign him. He's always been a head case but at least a few years ago Manny's production made him worth the risk. These days with his greatly diminished skills and age he clearly isn't worth it, especially for a team like the Yankees.

You're lucky it was only $40 mill. I believe he was pushing hard for like 4 years/$80 mill guaranteed from LA. Luckily for the Dodgers they didn't bite.

From what I've read about that, the Dodgers were really bidding against themselves. No other team was going to ever give him that much. If they were going to he wouldn't have waited until the following February to sign. He basically got a "Jeter type of contract" because he made such a splash with the Dodgers in late 2008.

They put Lincecum and not Brian Wilson?!?! Would have it have killed them to put on both guys? That would have been an epic cover. Maybe even put "The Machine" in the background of the cover.

Not surprising. The rumors of Yankees interest sounded like BS to me all along. They'd be fools to get involved with Manny.
