Jelly just posted a story that basically says "Breaking news: Pettitte still undecided!" for like the 4th time this week. It's not a news story if it tells you absolutely nothing.

Jelly doesn't read anything he posts, he just sees something and hits copy paste.

According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, Adrian Beltre's deal with the Rangers will be worth $96 million over six years.
That sixth year can be voided if Beltre doesn't reach a certain amount of plate appearances, so it's really a vesting option. The 31-year-old third baseman still has to pass a physical and there are still some language issues in the contract that need to be sorted out, but this thing is almost done. Beltre should do quite well in Arlington, where the dimensions are friendly to hitters and where he'll be sidekicked by a talented young shortstop in Elvis Andrus. Jan. 4 - 1:49 pm et

Umm... go Texas has $96 mill to throw at a guy like Beltre? Why didn't they use a good chunk of that money to just boost their offer to Cliff Lee?

They're both in their 30s so age wasn't a factor, it may be that Cliff Lee just didn't want to stay in Texas, sounds like he didn't like the heat too much.

This is very good news. A contract for $12 mill per year seems very reasonable for a reliable 30-35 HR, 90'ish RBI, solid defensive 2nd baseman.

Dan Uggla agrees to extension

Second baseman Dan Uggla has reached agreement with the Atlanta Braves on a five-year, $62 million contract extension, a league source told ESPN.com. The deal is pending completion of a physical exam, the source said.

Unreal. I can't believe how much Beltre got. 96 million/6yr for a career .275 25 80 hitter. Congrats Texas for drinking the Walk Year CoolAid.

Rangers announce Beltre signing @ 130. Will Cowboys bigfoot that and name coach today? Doubt it.

I guess they didn't learn anything when they signed A-Rod, huh?

Beltre's offensive production is consistently lower than Dan Uggla's yet Atlanta was able to extend Uggla for $34 mill less. Sorry but Texas overpaid BADLY.

The difference is Uggla wasn't a free agent and Beltre was. If Uggla had waited a year and become a free agent he probably could have got a contract similar to (if not greater than) Beltre, but he probably didn't want to risk hurting his value with a bad year or an injury. I agree Texas overpaid, but that's what makes Scott Boras such a good agent. He can get teams like the Rangers and Nationals to overpay for players like Beltre and Jayson Werth.

Both guys are very deserving. It's very obvious that the only reason Alomar didn't make it in first ballot is because of the umpire spitting incident. Blyleven is long overdue. Waiting 14 years was beyond ridiculous. And am I missing something here about Bagwell? I don't recall his name ever coming up in the roids debate. I could be wrong though. Bagwell should have been 1st or 2nd ballot HOF IMO.

Barry Larkin came close to making it so he should make it next year. It's absolutely ridiculous that McGriff couldn't crack 20% much less make it in. The guy barely missed 500 home runs and you could tell he never juiced. He should be in the HOF IMO. Kinda lame that a DH like Edgar Martinez received far more votes than a complete player like the Crime Dog.

Roberto Alomar, Bert Blyleven in Hall

Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven became Hall of Famers on Wednesday, the two-time World Series champions easily elected after narrow misses last year.

All-Star sluggers Rafael Palmeiro, Jeff Bagwell, Mark McGwire and Juan Gonzalez didn't come close in Wednesday's election. No telling if they ever will, either, after Hall voters sent a clear message: The drug cloud isn't going to cover Cooperstown.
Roberto Alomar 90.0
Bert Blyleven 79.7
Barry Larkin 62.1
Jack Morris 53.5
Lee Smith 45.3
Jeff Bagwell 41.7
Tim Raines 37.5
Edgar Martinez 32.9
Alan Trammell 2.3
Larry Walker 20.3
Mark McGwire 19.8
Fred McGriff 17.9
Dave Parker 89 15.3
Don Mattingly 79 13.6
Dale Murphy 73 12.6
Rafael Palmeiro 64 11.0

Exactly. I felt confident McGriff would benefit from being one of the few clean sluggers of the steroid era. It's laughable that he didn't even crack 20%.

Jack Morris getting 53% is a surprise to me. I know he was a great postseason pitcher but I never considered him HOF worthy looking at his career numbers.

And looking ahead... I did a little digging and it looks like over the next several years the 2014 class is going to be the best.

2014 players eligible for the first time:

Locks:
Greg Maddux
Frank Thomas - A rare slugger whose name never came up with roids
Tom Glavine - Surely 305 wins and 2 Cy Youngs are enough for 1st ballot

Likely:
Jeff Kent - Terrific slugger, complete a-hole. Will the voters make him wait just because he was a prick? Maybe.

Maybe:
Mike Mussina - Honestly, I'm probably in the minority but I think he deserves to make it. His career 270-153 record is outstanding and he would have surpassed 300 wins if he didn't retire so young. One knock against him is he never won a ring despite playing for the Yankees so many years.

This is the class I look forward to the most. It would be amazing seeing my two favorite pitchers Maddux and Glavine go in together. And Smoltz could get in come 2015.

2013 sure is going to be interesting. I'm dying to see how many votes Clemens and Bonds get. What do you do with two of the best players the game has ever seen, regardless of their use of roids? Both were destined to be in the Hall even before their usage.

If McGwire tops out at 15-20% I'll bet Bonds and Clemens top out at 25-35%. It's becoming obvious that roughly 2/3rds of HOF voters continue to outright refuse to put any player liked to PED's on their ballot. They don't care whether the guy had the talent to be a HOF'er even if they were clean, only that they did use.
