As a Braves fan I was sad to see him go, but it appeared he never really wanted to put in the work to make himself a better hitter, hitting .220, .250 on consistent basis was never going to cut it. Kinda of the same issue with Francoeur

I was a bit sad to see him go at the time. At that time he'd only had the one really bad season his entire career and there was little reason to think he wouldn't bounce right back to being the career .270'ish, 35'ish, 90+ RBI guy he'd been his whole career. Of course that never happened.

That bum is still on the Dodgers payroll for about 3.5 million a year and will be for the next several years. Gotta love deferred contracts.

Interesting, I see the Giants don't have any deferred money weighing you down. Although you guys do still have.....well you know.

The best thing Manny did during his stint with LA was flunking a roids test which took the team off the hook 50 games worth of pay.

Jones would take over the role that Marcus Thames had this past season. Jones would be a role player (playing against lefties and as a PH). The one thing he has over Thames is that Jones is a way better outfielder. He'll play some games out there but he's in no way going to be a regular as a Yankee.

Jim Thome staying with Twins

Quote:
Free-agent slugger Jim Thome and the Minnesota Twins have agreed to a one-year contract worth $3 million, sources tell ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

A conference call will be held later Friday to announce the deal.

The Texas Rangers also were interested in Thome, who spent last season in Minnesota after signing a one-year, $1.5 million contract last February. He spent most of his time with the Twins as the designated hitter, hitting .283 with 25 homers and 59 RBIs in 276 at-bats.

Sounds like the Rangers drove up the price on him a bit but we still got him back, fantastic news!

I'm so happy the Yankees signed Rafael Soriano . He will probably be the set-up man for Mariano Rivera!

And his successor (whenever Mo hangs it up). Now our pen is starting to look a whole lot better. All we need is at least one more solid starter and we'll be set.

What big names are still available? I can't think of any big free agents left. Of course they could stil pull off a trade or two.

Even with another starter Burnett would be your #4 guy. Do you really feel confortable with a rotation of Sabathia, Hughes, Burnett and a mismash of scrubs/rookies?

That's a ridiculous statement. To be a "great pitcher" you have to actually accomplish something in the big league. There's a big difference between AAA minor league ball and MLB. I remember when everyone was gushing over Joba when he got called up to the Yankees. Nobody calls him great anymore.

I'm curious what will happen with Joba..my guess is he'll be a starter again. For..the 4th time? I've lost count. I do miss the old days of '07..he was amazing when he first got called up..except for all those darn bugs.
