With that said, Damon is a great clubhouse guy. I believe he would neutralize any negativity Manny would bring.

and with Manny being on such a cheap contract, it's one of those low risk high reward situations. If he acts up, there shouldnt be a problem releasing or trading him, but if he behaves and does well, then its quite the bargain.

Royals and 1B Billy Butler avoided arbitration Saturday by agreeing to a four-year, $30 million extension.
The Royals have bought out all three of Butler's arbitration years, as well as his first year of free agency. A $7.5 million average annual salary seems like a pretty fair deal for both sides, as Butler requested $4.3 million and was offered $3.4 million from the Royals earlier this week, but he'd obviously be due for raises in subsequent seasons. I just wanted to post a thought of mine on the whole Rafael Soriano situation. With the Hal (Steinbrenner) ignoring (Brian) Cashman's voice of not signing him reminded me of George (Steinbrenner) doing what it took to get his man (even at ignoring others). This viewed as a good thing or a bad thing.

I'll put it this way. I live on the beachside on Florida's east coast and homeowners runs around $250/month on a home worth roughly $100K'ish. Tampa is even more hurricane prone. On a house like that in that location (on the water) it's probably impossible to get any insurance.

Ya, the Rays are done as a contender. They'd be lucky to finish 3rd. Their only hope is a quick rebuilding every few years.

True, and I'll bet their average crowd this year end up being similar the the last couple years. The Rays attendance is just as lousy whether they are good or not. I do think the Rays will be similar to Oakland and Florida though in that their minor league system is good enough to allow them to dismantle teams and bounce right back every several years.
