Jeter had a dispute a couple years back with New York authorities because he claimed he was a Florida resident but they said he was a New York resident and should have been paying state taxes on all his income. He ended up settling with the state for an undisclosed sum.

I think it's stupid to waste a first round draft pick in order to sign a reliever. Particularly one that isn't your closer.

Justin Morneau (concussion) played catch last week.
It was his first game of intensive catch since suffering a season-ending concussion last July. And he reported feeling fine. Twins GM Bill Smith spoke with the MLB Network about Morneau's status last week: "He’s going to start swinging the bat probably the first of February, which gives him two months before Opening Day. The Rays seem to be in full firesale mode. If I were a big budget team like NY or Boston I'd keep leaning hard to pickoff even more of their star players.

According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the Diamondbacks have acquired right-hander Armando Galarraga from the Tigers.
As expected. The Tigers will receive prospect right-hander Kevin Eichhorn and left-hander Ryan Robowski in return. Galarraga will presumably compete for the final rotation spot during spring training. The 29-year-old right-hander posted a 4.49 ERA and 74/51 K/BB ratio over 24 starts and one relief appearance with the Tigers last season. It's unlikely his fly ball tendencies will lead to much more success at Chase Field. Jan. 24 - 4:03 pm et

That was a pure desperation move after missing out on Crawford and Beltre. They knew their current team wasn't good enough to contend for the title so they took on Wells despite his horrible contract. For what they're spending on Wells for 4 years they could have gotten Beltre for 5 years.

I used to think a lot of Moreno as an owner. In his early days as owner he spent a lot but seemed to make smart personnel decisions. In recent years he's just left me scratching my head with some of his odd acquisitions/moves.
