In case anyone didn't know Giants closer Brian Wilson is a bit different. The link has his appearance on Lopez Tonight, where he was displaying an interesting look and had some stories you usually don't hear athletes (or anyone) talking about.

Is this evidence of a failure of the O’s Front Office to gain (or protect) compensatory draft-picks, or is this evidence of a flawed compensatory system?”
Pretty much like the Redskins not picking players and thereby reducing the chance they get good players

Mets ownership is exploring the possibility selling 20-25% of the team. It seem that this Bernie Madeoff ponzy scheme has affected them more than what people thought. Wingman1977 has lived long enough to see the real life Lex Luthor.

Freddy Garcia has voice his desire to be a Yankee:

LINK

Translation:

"My preference is to be with the New York Yankees, and it's not unreasonable to have that in mind, because I've demonstrated that I can be useful," Garcia said. "A team like New York would be ideal for my age, [as would ] playing in a successful, media-heavy, demanding division. Without doubt it would be an inspiration."

Speaking of Vlad Guerrero I got to thinking. Is this guy Hall of Famer? He's still only 35 and assuming he doesn't retire young he will break 500 HR's. As far as I'm aware his name never came up with PED's. Personally I think he is on track. The only real knock I can see with Vlad is his lack of postseason success.

2004 AL MVP
8-Time Silver Slugger
9-Time All-Star

Career stats:
.320 Avg
436 HR
1433 RBI
179 SB

Per 162 games career:
.320 Avg
35 HR
116 RBI

If he gets to 500HR, he'll be a shoe in (as long as his name is not linked to PED use).

Brian Wilson wears sea captain costume on George Lopez

Quote:
Not to worry, lovers of half-baked punk rawk-baseball comedy: San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson appears to be in midseason form with his one-off imitation of Andy Dick.

Yes, the Bearded One surfaced on George Lopez's TBS show on Thursday night to promote the MLB 2K11 video game. He arrived in a pretty fantastic getup: A nautical outfit that was equal parts Captain Ahab, Captain Stubing, hipster band frontman, Zach Galifianakis, Kenny Rogers and the other Brian Wilson. Ahoy, all ye landlubbers ashore at McCovey Cove!

Is there any other pro athlete you'd rather hang with than Brian Wilson? Seriously, no disrespect to the Dos Equis Guy but Brian Wilson is the real "World's Most Interesting Man." They should have given him a cameo in The Hangover 2.

McGriff has just about 500 hrs (493) and he wasn't a shoe in. He got like a 18% vote. I don't think that 500 number is as romantic as it used to be because of the steroid era.

And all you had to do was look at McGriff to tell he never used roids. MLB HOF voters truely are a bizarre bunch.

I also think Jeff Bagwell not making it in is proof that voters are even punishing players whom they have zero evidence of roids. Bagwell's numbers were clearly 1st ballot HOF IMO, yet he missed the cut by a mile with only 42% of the vote. My only explanation is voters are looking at body size in determining who they think juiced. I wonder if even Griffey gets screwed over 1st ballot because voters just assume he juiced, despite no evidence he did.

2013 should be the most interesting year for the HOF. Check out the players who appear on the ballot for the first time that year. My guess is only Piazza is a 1st ballot shoe-in. Biggio should make it 1st ballot as well IMO, with Schilling possibly making it a few years later. Lots of juicers on that list. Bonds, Clemens and Sosa won't make it until decades later when the Old Timers Committee elects them.

Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, Curt Schilling, Sammy Sosa

Sources: Albert Pujols would veto trade
I can't believe if the Red Sox or Yankees stepped up he would veto that trade... Both could and probably would pay him silly money.

Pujols strikes me as one of those rare pro athletes who is content playing in one city his entire career, sort of like Tim Duncan. He's already won everything, including a World Series ring anyway. My guess is St. Louis gives him the long extension he deserves and he finishes his career with that team.

I could see Tim Duncan leaving the Spurs if they fail to get to the Finals this year but I get your point and I agree, Pujols will probably never leave St. Louis.

He's staying with the Cardinals. St. Louis can't afford to let him go.
