I think they need to put a stipulation in there that if you accept luxury tax money you have to put it back into the team. Otherwise it's just big market owners like Steinbrenner and Co. giving money to rich owners of smaller market teams who just pocket the cash.

Actually since they started inflating their payroll bigtime (around 2001'ish), they have 1 ring in about 10 years. Prior to that they won 4 rings in 5 years with a payroll not all that massive. There seems to be an inverse relationship between money and championships for the Yankees.

Twins general manager Bill Smith said Tuesday that Justin Morneau (concussion) hasn't begun any baseball activities.
The Twins are still optimistic that Morneau will be ready for Opening Day, but Smith continues to call his rehab "a work in progress." "We have pledged patience, and we only want him to go when he's ready," said Smith. "If that's March 1, April 1 or July 1, that's what it will be. We only want him to go through this one time. We don't want this to become a roller coaster." The Twins are obviously going to take every precaution here, but that doesn't mean you should dismiss Morneau as a fantasy option. We'll all just have to wait and see how he feels in the early part of spring training.
