Oh great, let's not start this argument again. It sounds good in theory, but in general it's proven to not be the case.

Aside from being a baseball team, the Yankees are a business, and spending $201m might be an effort to win a World Series, but even if they don't, they'll still be turning a hefty profit this year.

Let's face it... the Yankees aren't the Yankees if they don't spend money. The fans want to see them spend money, so you can't blame them for giving the fans what they want. Would you rather have the Steinbrenner family throw all that money into other personal endeavors?

Anyhow if Dark Elf was a true fan, he'd know the lead is actually 7.5 games, not 6.5.

Agreed, I only put that up since thats what all that money should get you. And frankly its the elephant in the room eventually you will get the right mix of players to make it a fall into place, the facts are when other teams make bad moves it can CRUSH their teams for years but the benefit may not show up in wins/titles, but it shows up in being able to shrug off the Contreras', Igawa's, and Pavano's of the baseball world.

And If I were a yankee fan I wouldn't expect anything less, just saying it doesn't seem necessary to have 1-2 pages of gloating every time the yankees beat someone. Bottom line they seem to have gotten the right players in to really make a good run(and maybe for years to come), so even though I don't care for them, I really wouldn't and don't expect anything less then a title given the players they have.

Maybe this too simplistic but why don't the owners of suck teams make some drastic changes or investments into the sucky teams. Or sell it to someone who can dish out the $ to get superstar players, thus bringing the fairweather fans in with their $

If he's that good of GM , how come every year the Jays are battling to make the playoffs ?

He didn't get rid of Scott Rolen which is a big mistake!

BTW, im allowed to like the Yankees so respect that and i ain't the one calling names which is pretty childish to do for a grown man!

The Jays have been compettive since 2006, with this season being a step back a time to dump salary like JP is doing now to get ready for this offseason. The Jays had more wins than the 2006 WS Champtions by the way, if you knew anything you may know that.

Holding onto Rolen was a mistake, the guy gets paid 12 million a year and has shoulder problems, no home run power anymore... he is gone and now on the DL... looks like JP made the right move to me. Money free to start fresh with.

And you are the biggest bandwagon fan on the planet. Go wear a celtics hat to a Yanks game and see what happens.

Well frankly I agree, but I'm certainly in no position to speculate on how much money individual teams owners have, and how they put it use, if an owner has money and won't spend it he deserves what he gets and should actually not be allowed to own a team(Marlins). On the other end though are teams that might not be able to afford even 100 million per season (brewers) and its those teams I feel for or teams who try but fail and get hurt long term.

I know right they are doing it again, but to be fair almost all those wins came from sub 500 teams(except phili/chc), they have the dodgers coming up and also they have a pretty tough Sept/ start of Oct.

The Yanks destroy the Sox Friday night, the Sox destroy the Yanks Saturday. Beckett gives up five homers yesterday, and Schmoltz gets a win with 9 strikeouts (albeit against the Padres), 7 of them in a row. And how about all those 2-out hits the Sox came up with?!

You gotta love how unpredictable the game of baseball is! Wacky.

Well the Sox are going to have to go after that Wild Card, looks like. The Yanks show no signs of slowing down, and Sox pitching is spotty (Penny is just not cutting it).
