One of the more interesting ones are articles noting that with the Red Sox' expiring contracts(upwards of fifty million dollars) and the possibility of some of their prospects taking starting roles at low money(Ryan Kalish and Julio Iglesias), it would be feasible for them to sign Pujols without increasing their total payroll.

While I don't think its' likely, it's fun to speculate. Anyone else have any interesting thoughts on where he might land?
I think the only realistic possibilities for Pujols are the Angels, Cubs, and Cardinals. The Angels are always looking to spend money and make a splash and their current first baseman Kenry Morales is an arbitration player and doesn't have a long-term contract.

The Cubs only signed Carlos Pena to a one-year deal and don't have anyone in their system that looks like the answer at first base. They have a lot of contracts coming off their books after the season, including Aramis Ramirez $14.6 million salary (they will owe a $2 million buyout), Kosuke Fukudome's $13.5 million salary, Carlos Silva's $11.5 million salary (another $2 million buyout), John Grabow's $4.8 million salary, and Pena's $10.5 million salary. The Cubs have a new TV deal coming soon and getting a player like Pujols would certainly increase the team's value while also hurting a division rival.

Still, I think the most likely scenario is Pujols staying in St. Louis. If he spends his whole career there he'll be beloved for life like Cal Ripken Jr. in Baltimore and Tony Gwynn in San Diego. The only way I see Pujols leaving is if another team seriously overpays for him. I'm not certain if he'd go to the Cubs though. They are the Cardinals biggest rival and I don't know if he'd want to go there and know he's going to be hated and booed for years whenever he plays in St. Louis.

By the way, I'd also add the Dodgers and Mets as contenders for Pujols if their ownership situations get settled.

Don't count the Nats out the Lerner family finally showed us they'll spend money (look at that Werth contract ), but I wouldn't sleep on them jumping in (if he'd even consider coming here).

I thought I saw something that said Cal Ripken

Nice one Miguel. Not only did he pull the tired old "do you know who I am card" but he also took another swig of scotch right in front of officers.

PLEASE let there be a police cam that caught all this on tape. It'll be so much fun to watch.

Albert Pujols said upon his arrival at Spring Training Thursday that he, his agent and the Cardinals had a laugh at the reported contract offer numbers that came out Wednesday.
We sensed that the reported $19-21 million per year offer didn't make any sense, and this confirms that. Pujols also said when asked of his asking price, "You guys are way off on what the numbers are you guys are throwing out there." The slugger reiterated that he "wants to be a Cardinal forever," and added that "if you want to call me greedy, you don't know who I am." We have no doubt that Pujols is being sincere in his desire to finish his career as a Cardinal, but obviously whether or not it will happen is very much in doubt at this point. He and the team have an opportunity again after the season, but there will be plenty of bidders for the best player in baseball.

It's not happening. If I had to take a guess I'd say a team like the Cubs would go hardest for Pujols. Yankees are a non-starter. I still think he'll end up re-signing with St. Louis.

I have a better chance of inheriting all of Donald Trump's money than Puljos coming to the Yankees.

Ya, it ain't happening with Tex locked in for the Yankees. But I will say this. If Pujols did get something really long-term like a 10 year deal it would seem to make more sense that an AL team would give it to him since they have a DH. Pujols might be a fine fielder today but on the back-end of a 10 year deal he'd be better off on a team where he could DH some.

I still laugh at the Rangers for blaming the Yankees for Cliff Lee signing with the Phillies.

Hank Aaron sees Giants-Red Sox Series

Quote:
NEW YORK -- Hank Aaron sees hitters regaining superiority over pitchers this season, one that he suspects might end with a World Series between the Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants.

During a telephone interview with The Associated Press, the Hall of Fame slugger said he thinks the upcoming trials of Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens won't overshadow the season. Hammerin' Hank also predicts his Atlanta Braves will have a successful first season under new manager Fredi Gonzalez.

While much of the early spring training buzz has been about the Philadelphia Phillies -- who added Cliff Lee to a rotation that already has Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels -- Aaron said Philadelphia shouldn't count on winning the pennant.

"I know Philadelphia got Cliff Lee and all those other top pitchers over there," he said Tuesday from Atlanta. "But hey, those kids did a heck of a job last year for San Francisco. I think they're going to have a good account of themselves."

Would be nice, but as a realist, its unlikely the Giants will make it back... But you never know

Who knows. MLB is one of the hardest sports to predict, despite the lack of parity. I don't know anyone who picked the Giants to make it far in the playoffs last year, much less win it. As for 2011 I'd say Boston is more likely to make it back to the WS than San Francisco. I have a very hard to betting against Philly making the Series with the starting 4 they now have.
