It's a bit odd that the overwhelming majority of "MLB experts" are picking Boston to win the title this year. Unlike other sports MLB had a very high rate of teams winning the championship that nobody predicted before the season started. Who does everyone see at the potential "sleeper" championship team this year? These are mine.

Colorado Rockies - I doubt they beat San Francisco in the NL West, but they look like the 2nd best in that division and a strong Wild Card contender.

Tampa Bay Rays - I know it sounds weird but they could actually contend this year if they stay healthy and Manny and/or Damon really prouce. Despite their losses to free agency/trades they still have David Price, Shields, Wade Davis, Hellickson and Niemann as starters. That's a fantastic starting staff by any measure and their relief pitching is solid too. They just need decent offensive production. Most likely they end up 3rd in the AL East, but they would definately surprise.

Chicago White Sox - There really doesn't appear to be a strong favorite in the AL Central as usual. The White Sox have a very solid team and could surprise.

Minnesota Twins - I've learned to never count them out. They always overschieve given their payroll and constantly have an outstanding farm system. Starting pitching is the big question mark here.

Cincinnati Reds - I really don't think last year was a fluke. This team has a lot of great young talent that should only get better this season.

Milwaukee Brewers - They made some solid offseason moves and could surprise.

Atlanta Braves - I really feel better about my team this season than I have in many years. Our starting staff of Lowe, Hudson, Hanson and Jurrjens may not be awe-inspiring but it's pretty damn solid. Jason Heyward should continue to improve and rookie 1B Freddie Freeman has all the makings of a future star. Our farm system is probably in the best shape it's been in since the early 90's. All the talk about the NL East this offseason was with Philly and their addition of Cliff Lee, but don't sleep on Atlanta, they could win the Wild Card or even give Philly a run for their money.

Hopefully both teams lock up these guys so we can see this match up for years to come.

I gotta ask, how was that stadium when Broxton gave up that HR in the 9th? I heard he was the only player to get some boos during the player intros.

My 2011 MLB Predictions:

American League:
NY Yankees (East)
Detroit (Central)
Texas (West)
Toronto (wildcard and yes I'm serious)

National League:
Atlanta (East)
Chicago Cubs (Central)
SanFrancisco (West)
Philadelphia (wildcard)

World Series:
Toronto over Atlanta

Police are searching for two Dodgers fans who beat up a Giants fan in a parking lot after last night's game. The Giants fan is in critical but stable condition. The two Dodgers fans also apparently attacked two other Giants fans and were seen yelling expletives about the Giants.

I've never understood attacks like this. Why would you attack a fan of an opposing team? It's not like the fan had anything to do with the Giants success. In addition the Dodgers won the game, so why these men felt the need to attack another fan is beyond me.

Im gonna say it right now Dodger fans have no class. My friend who is a Dodger fan say that one guy was shot for wearing a Giants jacket. Why is LA so inhumane?

The game was a predictable pitchers duel. Obviuosly the Giants are suffering from World Series hangover and their DL is starting to look like a regular roster. Hopefully WIlson, Ross and Zito will be back into the starting ranks by next week.

Some guy got beaten in the Parking lot last night too. I booed a couple ppl in Giants gear but resorting to a beat down is just not right.

It's really lame. Fans in the U.S. are still FAR better behaved than fans in other parts of the world. In much of Europe they actually have to seat fans of opposing teams in different sections with a wall of security in between to prevent violance. Forget a small fight, in Europe if you wear the wrong teams colors in certain places it's enough to start a small riot. And beyond that they have extreme racial aspects (bananas thrown at players, etc.) of their hate over there that would be considered shocking in the U.S.

Being a Cubs fan I appreciate the sympathy but I think we're gonna be pretty bad this season (again...)

I think either the Reds or Cards will take the NL Central this year.

I think the Twins will take the AL Central again, Tigers will come in third.

Probably about right. Cincinnati isn't a big market city. They were talking about opening day average ticket prices on the radio yesterday. Lowest avg price is Tampa Bay at $25/ticket and highest Boston at $195/ticket.

Giants baseball just wouldn't be as exciting if it wasn't torture...

But yeah, I definitely agree. We're only one game and I can already tell its going to be a very long season...

Yup and opening day is considered a "Premium" game too, normally that seat is $45. They are starting to develop the area around the stadium as well (The Banks Project) so in the coming years it will be a fun place to hang out on a warm summer night .

Also the seats on the other side of that glass barrier are $235/game but that includes all you can eat and drink (non-alcohol) I'll save my money and buy groceries for 2 weeks instead of sitting down there, thanks

Bill

What a joke of a statement. As if there are no fights up north when the Dodgers visit SF. Both sides provoke each other in each stadium and you know it. And anyone who brings a gun to a game is not a sports fan and is either a gang member/thug and or mentally unstable.
