That's the dirty little secret of MLB - small market franchise owners can rake in big profits from revenue sharing by fielding garbage teams with almost no payroll. I remember a couple years ago the Pirates ownership had their financial records leaked publicly and it showed the ownership was pocketing like $20 mill per year in profits, despite not having a winning record in two decades. I'll bet the Royals ownership does the same thing. Many teams with deadbeat owners do that. And it's always going to happen unless the league implements a league minimum for team salaries like other sports.

And until the MLB does something they will be going downhill. Baseball is a falling sport that is in danger of really taking a plunge. It wouldn't surprise me if one day soon the NHL was getting better rating unless the MLB starts to make some changes.

I wouldn't say baseball is going downhill unlike, the NFL & NBA! One is in a lockout and another will be in one as well after the season! (Hopefully, the NBA goes away forever!)

But, I do agree with a cap and floor!

Yep, I'd actually hope if both the NBA/NFL locked out everyone could move back to baseball (even though I don't think it'll happen), just to prove a point.

Oh come on, the NFL is king of all sports. I mean the preseason schedule is announced and gets big ratings for crying out loud!

On the radio Jim Rome often says something to the effect of "there are two sports seasons in the U.S. - NFL season and waiting for NFL to start season." More and more he's right. The NFL was huge when I was a kid in the 80's-early-90's, but now it's 100x bigger. Hell, some pretty mundane stuff like the NFL combine and the NFL draft blow away other sports actual games in the ratings.

The other major sports are probably praying for a protracted NFL lockout to make themselves more relevant. Then again with the power the NFL has over American society the league could probably air live broadcasts of the closed door CBA labor talks and still get huge ratings.

Both, of my teams are looking good tonight! Buccos up on the Reds 5-0 in the 6th and the Rays up on the Twins 5-1 in the 7th!

Come on dude... nobody outside of Canada and the northern fringes of the U.S. cares about hockey. There's one guy in my office who follows hockey and when he tries to talk about it everyone looks at him like he's from some other planet.

That too, they've paid their dues being down for so long, I just need to learn the game, you'd think if I can watch 3 games a day for baseball I could get into hockey

No, he's not. He's staying with the team (on the DL of course) while he works up on his arm strength. When he does, he'll go town to Scranton for some rehab starts.

What the heck is a "dead arm"? That seems to be what ESPN is calling Hughes's apparent injury that landed him on the DL. I honestly cannot remember a player being put on the DL what that as the reason. Is it just some generic term for a sore arm?

Man, the Giants are playing awesome so far tonight. Great game.

Panda's home run in the first inning was beautiful!

Many pitchers get a dead arm (it just doesn't get mad a big deal but since it's the Yankees, it becomes a huge deal). He's not injured. A dead arm is not a injury.

Nice win by the Giants last night, were finally getting things going after a slow start... Hope Panda keeps hitting at the pace he is right now, seems like the Panda of year 1 is back ... and when will Huff wake up

I bought my tickets for the May 6 game against the Yankees. It'll be my first game and the fellas I'm going with, their 100th or something. I can't believe it's taken me this long to get up there and watch a game. And wouldn't you know it, Josh'll be out. Grrr!!! Still, I'm excited.

What a fantastic showing yesterday without our biggest bat. And we have half as many hits as the "mighty Yanks" and still handled them well. Matt Harrison is turning out to be our #1 it would seem.

I expect we beat up CC tomorrow just like we did in game 1 last year. Even though we lost. We did beat him up before he got pulled.
