One of the worst decisions in the Selig era, expanding the playoffs to 10 teams. A blatant money grab, when baseball is the absolute worst sport to be decided in very short playoff series.

As for players and their money, anyone that has ever hung around pro athletes knows most of them are dumb as rocks. No surprise to see many of them blow through millions.

It's unreal how many athletes blow their money with terrible investments like real estate or turning over their assets to guys like Bernie Madoff.
lol no doubt they really don't need to be investing to make more money, they should have enough capital to just sit on the money. But they're all greedy when someone says if you give me 10 I'll give you 50 or 100 they jump and get screwed.

If I were a retiring pro athlete with millions in the bank I'd literally keep the bulk of my fortune in bonds, government securities and large cap stocks. In the long run you're almost guaranteed to at worst grow your fortune at least modestly with those investments. About the only way you can go broke with millions of dollars is blowing it on high-risk investments like opening your own businesses or real estate. Boggles my mind that so many athletes choose the high-risk stuff.

Though I do find it astounding that self-made millionaires even managed to get hooked in a Ponzi scheme. It seems like most pro athletes behave in a way that they assume they'll keep making millions every year for life, when in reality sports careers (especially NFL) might only last a few years.
See, with madoff, it wasn't so easy to see at that time.

Actually, it would be only 1 extra WC team from each league.

If they're going to expand the playoffs it should be best of 7 every round. The best of 5 playoff series is one of the worst ideas ever. The regular season is 162 games for a reason. A season shouldn't come down to a silly 5 game series.

Just a heads up, the National Geographic channel will be showing break it down: Yankee stadium on 4/28 @ 10:00pm. It's basically about the tearing down of the old Yankee stadium. You can watch preview clips here: LINK (you have scroll over to the right to find the Yankee stadium clips).

Reminding everyone that there are 162 games is even more reason to have best of 5 series. Best of 7 series in the NBA and NHL cause the playoffs to last an eternity. Personally, I'd prefer best of 5 for every series except the world series.

NBA series last an eternity because they get ridiculously long layovers between games at times. In MLB they don't go that. There's typically one day off between change in cities and that's it.

Yep the small gain doesn't help much on say 100k but on 1-50 million thats a nice chunk of profit.

It won't be recognized as a no-no. If the team loses.
