I'll be curious if the Royals and Diamondbacks are able to sign their early picks. The Royals took Bubba Starling at #5, who is a top quarterback recruit for Nebraska and has said he isn't sure whether he'll go pro in baseball or play football and baseball at Nebraska. He's advised by Scott Boras so he's going to want a good sum of money.

The Diamondbacks used the #7 pick on Archie Bradley, who is an Oklahoma quarterback recruit, but Bradley is expected to play pro baseball. The Diamondbacks must be confident that they could sign Bradley because they used a compensatory pick on him so if they don't sign him they don't get any compensation, so Bradley has plenty of leverage in negotiations.

Nice comeback win for the Giants last night after Lincecum gave up 4 runs early, he has not been him self past few starts, hope that turns around quick, and Panda who was hot before injury should be back this week too! Giants in first place after the first 60 games

Have you seen some of the training footage for Bubba Starling? The guy is an amazing athlete, dunking all over people in basketball and running a 4.3 40 in football.

After 8 innings the Braves have just 1 hit but lead Florida 1-0. If the Marlins had any run support at all this year they might be ahead of the Phillies.

The Braves are the team that need an offense. Uggla has been an unmitigated disaster. The Braves need to fake an injury for him and give him a week or two off at this stage of the slump. Gonzalez is needlessly running guys into outs. Sending Prado to steal is extremely foolish anytime you do it, the man is just not fast. I never thought I would say this, but Chipper needs to retire. He was blustering last year that if hit poorly, he would retire. No pitcher fears him, they just throw fastball after fastball by him now.

There was no doubt Jonathan Papelbon would get hit with a suspension after his blowup Saturday. Now we know for how long.

The Boston Red Sox closer was banned for three games and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball for “inappropriate actions” which included making contact with home plate umpire Tony Randazzo after being ejected. Papelbon appealed the suspension and is available for Tuesday’s game against the New York Yankees.

Papelbon was upset with Randazzo’s strike zone in the midst of a four-run ninth inning by the A's. Earlier in the frame, Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. After throwing a called strike to Ryan Sweeney, Papelbon made a defiant gesture toward Randazzo. The umpire took off his mask, said something to Papelbon, then ejected him. Papelbon immediately rushed toward Randazzo, screaming and making contact with him.

Replays clearly show Papelbon losing his cool and bumping the umpire while Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and manager Terry Francona tried to hold him back. Papelbon said after the game he was trying to talk to Saltalamacchia when Randazzo took issue with him and that if he did make contact with the umpire, “it wasn’t on purpose.”

I think he's doing perfectly fine despite the shitty team the organization gave him. He's already MUCH more aggressive with his players than Torre ever was. He's actually giving his starters the chance to go the distance, which is something Torre would NEVER do. He's made a few suspect calls during the game but that was to be expected as a rookie. He's also stood up for his players even getting ejected. All in all I'm satisfied so far.

nice, glad to hear it as he was my favorite player growing up... and you cant be laid back like Torre was coming into the league as a rookie manager...so im glad hes doing well even though the team isnt that great...

I agree. The Dudgers have a losing record, but consdiering how badly mismanaged the team has been in recent years it's not Mattingly's fault. He seems to be doing as well as any manager could in that situation.

Hey, Wingman1977. I was pissed when Tex got hit last night. I didn't think it was intentional, but it always seems the frequency of hit batters is above the norm during a Yankees/Red Sox series. Not sure if there will be any retaliation tonight, but I really think they should play to win.

I was reading a thread on NYYFans.com about how Mussina was in a game similar to last night’s in 1993 and ended up retaliating against the other team only to have the batter charge the mound. I think Mussina ended up getting hurt costing him six weeks.

Our closer choked today, giving up a homer and a single with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, hope he can at least get this last out here and give us a chance to win in extras.
