I never knew he possessed this much power. I am definitely a Cano fan after this performance.
Cano beasted last night! He has the nicest swing in baseball and ive been tellin my friends for a few years, its only a matter of time until he starts winning batting titles! love cano, favorite "new generation" Yankee...

now, i hope his performance after the all star break doesnt dip becuase of the derby.... time will tell...but his swing is pretty effortless i think he'll be ok

The guy who went for the ball thrown into the stands in Texas was a tragedy. But last night's near fall was entirely self-inflicted. From what I read the guy was standing on a table or something and leaning over the railing. It's impossible to make a stadium idiot-proof. Darwinism has a way of sorting this stuff out.

I really love the All-Star game, and compared to all other sports, baseballs has the best all-star festivities, in the HR Derby and the game it self.. But something needs to be done about this Winner gets home field advantage in the World Series.... Makes no sense that an exhibition game decidess who gets home field .. Not that im complaining as the Giants got homefield last year

In other news, the fan who caught Jeters ball might be taxed by the IRS for the value of the ball, a tax bill upto $14k

But according to some people around here giving it back was "the right thing to do." According to what I've read the guy has like $100k in student loans already. Anyone foolish enough to to run up that much debt isn't too bright to begin with. I ran up only $5k in debt to finish my Finance degree.

I hope the NL wins it again!

+1
$100,000 sounds more like a second mortgage loan not college expenses.

I know this is the All Star game and all, but the AL lineup is ridiculously stacked. The NL probably has the better pitchers, though (starters and relievers). Halladay mows down the AL's top three in order very quickly to start the game.

Man do I hate Buck and McCarver. Adrian Gonzalez is the hands down AL MVP so far? What the hell are they on? Let me guess, they ignore any player not on a playoff team. What a joke. Bautista is far and away the AL MVP at this point.

When they finally do talk about Bautista, do they talk about his gaudy numbers? Nah just him homerun totals. They totally skip over the fact he also leads in walks, obp, slg, ops, ops+, WAR and intentional walks.

I really hate that crap too. The top honor should go to the best player, not the best player on a good team. Bautista is easily the best player in the AL. Without Bautista on the Jays they might be in last place in the AL East. Instead they're at least near .500 at 45-47.

^I'm not convinced that Matt Kemp is the runaway NL MVP that they were making him out to be, either. For one, Prince is putting up gaudy numbers this year, and let's not forget about Jose Reyes either. Both MVP races should be tight down the stretch.

Also, somebody needs to teach Berkman how to slide because that was god-awful.

Come on NL... win home field advantage in the World Series for the Braves. Well, I can hope, can't I? More likely it'll be home field advantage for the stinkin Phillies.

It should be interesting to see if the Brewers make K-Rod their closer because their current closer John Axford has done well, converting 23/25 saves with a 2.83 ERA, whereas K-Rod has converted 23/26 saves with a 3.16 ERA. K-Rod also has a $17.5 million vesting option if he finishes 55 games (he currently has finished 34 games). I can't imagine the Brewers want to keep him at that price and that would cripple their payroll for next year and get rid of any chance of keeping Prince. It's possible K-Rod would agree to waive the vesting option because he just signed Scott Boras on Monday and likely wants a long-term deal and Boras prefers for players to hit the open market rather than re-sign during the season.

Miller High Life said today that they will cover the fan's tax bill, and sporting goods store Modell's said they will give 5 percent of all sales of Yankees merchandise sold at it's Time Square location from July 13-19 to the fan to help with his student loans.

Great News!, the kid deserves it, and much more!

Jeter should write him a check for a $150k or something, which is pocket change for him

Good to hear. But I'm still scratching my head about how a cell phone salesman owes $100k in student loans. I'm sorry, but you have to have no sense of personal finances to have that much debt for a degree that obviously isn't even helping you find a real job. He must have majored in something like Anthropology or Classical Literature that has no real-world workplace value.

That's probably why he returned the ball...
