Does Atlanta have some sort of magical ability to always have a good catcher behind the plate? Seems like every catcher (Lopez, McCann, etc.) they've had for 15+ years now has been terrific. Even their backup catchers seem to produce well. They sure scout well in that department, that's for sure.

I still feel bad about the way last night's game ended though. A 19 inning game deserves a clean ending.

Also great to see Uggla FINALLY playing well. He's on a ig tear and his average jumped from like .170 to .205 very quickly. Hopefully he keeps it up with McCann out.

The funny thing about the whole issue is that the Rangers blame the Yankees for Lee signing with the Phillies.

David Ross is the shit and has been the shit.

But you're right; they always seem to have a great backup catcher in tow. Remember Eddie Perez all those years behind Javy? Was it Maddux in the rotation who gave Javy every fifth game off?

Yep, Maddux never used Javy.

Yea, its pretty safe to assume that the Mariners will be shunned by the yanks for a while after what they did....

Though I do believe the Yankees were confident they could sign Lee in the offseason long-term. Of course that move blew up too when Philly swooped in at the last minute with a huge contract.

So, the M's used the Yankees to get the player they really wanted. That's why I'm glad that all this bad stuff has happened to them.
exactly...basically telling the yankees they had a done deal when they went behind their back using the yanks as leverage...bad business

Stephen Strasburg (elbow) threw a three-inning simulated game Thursday in Viera, Florida.
Strasburg hurled 51 pitches, 39 of which were strikes. The 23-year-old will continue performing similar workouts until the Nationals clear him to begin a minor league rehab assignment. We're not expecting him to return to the majors until 2012.

That's what I'm trying to figure out how it was the Yankees fault for Lee signing with the Phillies.

Very Strange, Rip Hideki

In other news, Beltran will be in the starting lineup today & Lincecum is feeling much better from his food poisoning and is pitching today, we got pretty lucky this series dont have to face either Halliday or Lee

Because a lot of people just blame the Yankees by default? Come on, surely you know this being a Yankees fan. Though it does seem like the Phillies are assuming the role of "evil empire" these days. I've noticed this from many MLB fans I know who have gone from Yankee bashing to Philly bashing.

It's actually the Rangers credited themselves for Lee not signing with the Yankees. Here's what Rangers CEO Chuck Greenberg said about Lee signing with the Phillies:

"We had three different meetings with Cliff and his wife and his agent in Little Rock," he told fans assembled at the Arlington Convention Center, adding that by stretching out the process Texas gave the Phillies a chance to enter the auction. Even though Philadelphia was probably not in, they were always in the back of our mind,” Greenberg said. “I think if we wouldn’t have gone to Arkansas that last time, I think he was going to sign with the Yankees. We pried the door open a little bit to give ourselves another opportunity. And ultimately the Phillies were able to take advantage of that opportunity that we created.”

I know we didnt face either Halliday or Lee, but it was nice to take 2 of 3 from the Phillies, Giants pitching (besides Zito) shut down the high powered Philles offense games 2 & 3... Matt Cain going 8 innings giving up only 1 Un-earned run, and Lincecum going 6 giving up 0 runs, he could of went longer but bochy didnt want over use him as he was sick earlier this week...

Still feel good about our pitching!, hopefully with the addition of Beltran the offense can get going... I know he went 0-4 in his first game, but did anyone see his diving catch ...

Can't wait to see Beltran next week against the Dbacks and the Phillies. Stadium is going to be insane.

What the heck happened to Hanley Ramirez? He used to be such a great player. Now I watch him play and he's mediocre at best. Like he just doesn't care anymore.

"High-powered" would have described the Phillies 3 years ago. Now they're merely capable. Good enough to win games, but there are lots of better offenses in the NL.

Although hopefully with the just-announced acquisition of Pence, that will help a bit. Just having a good righty in the line-up may help balance out the lefties.
