Zambrano retiring would be the best thing that could happen to the Cubs. He's due $18 million next year and is nowhere near worth it. After last night's debacle I would guess he'll end up receiving a buyout from the Cubs because with a few exceptions players never retire when they're due a lot of guaranteed money and sadly it's next to impossible to void a baseball contract regardless of a player's actions. I think last night will be the breaking point for the Cubs and Zambrano.

It's kind of sad. When he's behaving Zambrano is one of my favorite Cubs. He's the most exciting pitcher in baseball at the plate and actually has the second highest batting average on the Cubs (.318). Zamrano's contract is further proof that the Cubs need to fire GM Jim Hendry, but Cubs owner Tom Ricketts appears to be too gutless to fire Hendry.

He sure was in his last year as a Brave.

Spot on post from a fellow frustrated Cub fan.

Which was pretty crazy considering he was a free agent at year end. Usually players step it up in a huge free agency season. That disastrous last season in Atlanta was the difference between him getting a 4-5 year deal and a 2 year deal he ultimately received. But even that 2 year deal he received from LA turned out to be an epic fail. What'd he hit, like .180 there?

Overweight but talented loose-cannon pitcher has a complete mental breakdown in a game after years of under-achieving. He then walks out on his team essential saying "Chicago: you're f'n out!". Zambrano is the real life Kenny Powers. Next time we hear about him he'll be down in Mexico cockfighting with a midget sidekick and pitching for some obscure Mexican league ball club.

It's so bad Dunn is still having a slightly better year this year than Jones had in LA.

LA Andruw Jones (75 games):

35 OPS+ (.158AVG, .256OBP, .294SLG%, -2.3WAR)

X 10^

Man, Corey Wade has been another gem find for us. To think that he was put on the scrap heap by the Rays. Brian Cashman has done a great job this year with finding gems in the rough.

He does a great job most years. People think he has it easy because of the budget but the pressure to succeed is certainly higher there then anywhere else.

And did you see it? He worked the count full and reached out over the plate to poke a good pitch into the outfield. His batting technique is so sharp right now.

Uggla blasts his 27th HR of the year to the deepest part of the ballpark! The announcer says he's hotter than a dancin' bobcat! He's now 2nd in the NL by one HR behind Berkman.

I still cannot believe what happened to Andruw. He was always somewhat lazy and lacking work ethic, but he was cruising to the HOF right up until his collapse. I've never seen an MLB star just completely mentally collapse the way he did. An autographed Andruw Jones jersey? Wow... That must be good for a laugh.

Anyone have his Mcfarlane Dodgers figure? I was goign to buy one in 2007 but as his season got worse and worse I thought, man would that look stupid on the shelf.

Uggla has nearly reached .300 (.299) ......... obp that is which is still freaking terrible. Imagine Uggla with a 60 game hit streak, being in the hall exhibit while sporting a projected .250 average. Brutal.

Well he's gotten on base 8 of 9 trips to the plate so far in this series against the Cubs. Too bad the rest of the team tonight played like shit.

After tonight's loss the Braves will be 19-14 during Uggla's 33 game hit streak. It's roughly the same win% they had before the streak. Unfortunately the rest of the guys aren't stepping up as well.

During the streak, Chipper has been on the DL. McCann. Jurrjens. Schaffer. McLouth. Heyward and Prado at the beginning IIRC.

Today's Yanks/Rays game was rained out. No makeup date yet (but it'll be the next time the Rays are in town this year so it'll more than likely be a double header).
