I haven't heard anyone booing Mauer. Nor have I read anything real negative about him in the papers. Not to say it's no happening. If it is, I think it's a small group of frustrated people. It's tough when you start out with playoff expectations and now are pulling up the rear. And yes, I have a Mauer shirt.

Nice game for Atlanta. Rolling Arizona 8-1 heading into the 9th. Uggla is having another big game going 2-3 with 2 HR's. He's up to .300 for the year! Oh wait... that's .300 in OBP.

Too bad we rarely ever gain on Philly. Looks like Oswalt is about to finish off a shutout against Washington.

Im not even worried about catching Philly at this point, just get enough cushion in the WC lead, that way you can start resting players the last few weeks of the season.

This will be crucial for the Braves, too. The hot weather takes its toll. The Braves have a number of key contributors who are banged up/on the DL, and the Braves have also played several key contributors really hard so far (most notably relief pitchers Johnny Venters and Craig Kimbrel in the 8th/9th innings because the Braves often win games the hard way).

The biggest player it could help is actually Heyward. The Braves get enough of a cushion, they can afford to keep him in the lineup and let him work on his swing and hopefully get going before the playoffs start.

Wow, Craig Kimbrel strands a runner at third and strikes out the side in the 9th to preserve a tight 1-0 victory for the Braves over the DBacks. The Braves went 6-1 against the top two teams in the NL West at home and often looked downright scary doing it, giving up a total of 15 runs across the 7 games this week.

Giants won in extras, Phillies lost in extras (winning run came in the 10th on a HBP with the bases loaded after the Nats hit a 2-strike, 2-out, HR in the bottom of the ninth to extend the game). Braves now trail the Phils by 6.5 in the NL East race and lead the Giants by 8 in the NL Wild Card race.

Not today.. I just saw on ESPN that Nova is 9-0 in his last 10 starts..

The Braves have the scariest relief pitching I have ever seen in my life. Kimbrel is the best closer in the league and he might not even be the second-best reliever on the staff. People need to check out Jonny Venters on a nightly basis. We are watching history in the making. His season is historic and is not a fluke. He has the nastiest sinker with screwball action anyone has ever seen. Right now his ERA+ is 336, which is basically insane.

The only thing left to be decided in the NL is who wins the West. I still think the pitching for the Dbacks is going to implode sooner or later.

indeed, Philly will take the division, braves need to just focus on winning the wildcard and stop losing series to the nats and cubs etc.....the reason philly is ahead of the braves is they take care of business vs the crap teams...braves for whatever reason let those bum teams hang around

Yup and Nova is from our farm system. We're looking smarter for not making that Jimenez deal with the Rockies. Curtis doesn't get enough credit for his speed IMO.

ANGELS are my team unfortunately no matter what we do it seems, dem darn Texans won't lose enough to gain ground on This weekend will be the real test. If it goes like the previous series vs them, then I may just have to give up on them this year

I dunno, with six games left against the Phils it's not unthinkable that we could challenge them down the stretch. After all, it's the difference between playing the Brewers in the first round and the DBacks. I'd rather play the DBacks if possible.

An ESPN blog article today was talking about the question mark that is the Braves' playoff rotation, and this writer didn't even have Jair Jurrjens in the mix at all. I thought WTF, he was a midseason Cy Young cofavorite. I trust JJ more than I trust Derek Lowe, and I like Beachy a little more than I like Minor (as far as the rookies go).

Michael Bourn makes more outs running the basepaths than anyone I've ever seen. He was caught stealing second on Friday, caught stealing home last night, and in the first inning today doubled off first base on a gapper that the Cubs' CF was able to catch.
