What a surprise.

Giants Claim Heath Bell

Quote:
The San Francisco Giants claimed San Diego Padres closer Heath Bell on waivers Wednesday.

Padres P Heath Bell talks about being claimed on waivers by the Giants. He says it's a "waiting game" right now to find out if the teams agree on a trade.

Bell will become a member of the Giants' bullpen if San Francisco and San Diego can agree to terms on a trade. San Diego has 48 hours to decide whether to trade the three-time All-Star, allow him to be claimed or pull him back from waivers.

Appearing on ESPN Radio's "Doug Gottlieb Show" on Wednesday afternoon, Bell said his agent confirmed that the Giants had claimed him and that now it's a "waiting game."
Just what we needed, more pitching

I guess hes insurance for Brian Wilson....

I'm officially panicking and this game isn't nearly over. The Sox got 4 runs off Harrison in the 1st. Throw in the fact that they got a whole bunch yesterday against Colby, our number 2, I'm not sure we can hang with these Sox or for that matter the Yanks yet. Honestly, we were lucky in Monday's game that Ellsbury and Ortiz weren't in the lineup.

It's definitely really tight competition amongst the three teams. Sox starting pitching is what has me worried - not thrilled with Bedard or Lackey.

Still gotta work out a deal for him, not sure San Diego will let him go for cheap, at worst if he walks in the off season, I believe he is a Type A Free Agent, they will get a compensatory pick for him.

Not thrilled with Lackey? More like terrified of Lackey.

Mike Flanagan has passed away. One of the Orioles pitchers that i grew up watching in the 70s and 80s.

RIP Mike.

These past two games would say otherwise. We got smoked last night with your so-called one lacking starter on the mound, Lackey pitching. And we're getting re-smoked tonight. Prior to this series, I was confident to say the least with our 2-5 pitchers. Obviously, that is no longer the case.

Soriano had been pitching better of late but he sucked tonight. His ERA is back over 5.00 for the year. Kind of a let down for the Yankees.

Another gem pitched by Lincecum, who is 7-4 in his last 12 starts with an ERA under 1.35 ... with an ERA that low he could/should of gone 12-0 in that stretch had the Giants given him any run support

Giants beat writer Andrew Baggarly doesn't believe the Giants and Padres will reach a deal for Heath Bell. He said that the Padres are going to want a lot since Bell will be a type A free agent worth a first round pick and sandwich pick and the Giants aren't likely to give up a package involving a top prospect for Bell since they already gave up a top prospect for Carlos Beltran. He thinks the Giants may have placed the claim on Bell in large part to make sure the Diamondbacks or Phillies didn't get him.

A update to the Yankees waiver claim on Carlos Pena. The Cubs pulled him back so he'll stay with the Cubbies.
