A few years ago i went to the Giants/Yanks series in SF, in 07 i think, it was the first time they met since the 62 world series, I had on field passes, that was the day i met Barry Bonds after winning a contest from his website, but i also got 4 tickets about 28 rows behind the Giants dugout, met Arod and Jeter as well as a few other Yankees, and you wouldnt believe the amount celebrities i got to meet, such as Billy Crystal & Robin Williams, but boy was that series fun!!! Even though we lost that game 7-3, still got to watch Barry Bonds hit a HR on my birthday

A game i will never forget...

Braves starting pitching is gonna be their downfall this postseason (didn't think I'd ever say that). I think they're too inconsistent to break through the tough crowd of the Brewers and the Phillies. Tim Hudson aside, the two rookies (Beachy/Minor) are pitching more consistently than the two vets (Jurrjens/Lowe) and Tommy Hanson looks doubtful due to an injury. Freddie Gonzalez will probably start Lowe anyway, though, and Lowe will probably go down as the losing pitcher of record in the Braves final postseason game... again.

That would be extremely impressive in 162 games but he did that in 143 games. He destroyed Mo Vaughn that year who got the award but lost because of his poor attitude which should be irrelevant.

Wow Indians won 100 out of 144 as well with Belle. Those 12 voters who voted for Vaughn should have all been fired.

Robin O'Connor, an ex-Giants payroll employee is alleged to have embezzled over $1.5 million from players between June 2010 and June 2011. She was caught after she applied for a home loan and forged a letter from the Giants HR manager saying she got large bonuses from the team for her contributions in helping them win the World Series, and Bank of America sent a copy of the letter to the Giants for confirmation. It isn't mentioned what players she stole the funds from, although it is assumed it was players like Barry Zito who make over $10 million per year and might not notice that their paychecks should have been more.

I retract my case for Verlander as AL mvp. Does he deserve consideration? Sure. But I just saw that Pedro's 2000 season which is perhaps the finest pitching season in mlb history didn't even garner him a single first place vote. That was a very depressing stat to read. You know what's even more depressing? Reading that Francisco Rodriguez got a first place vote in 2008 for his 62 saves despite not even being the third best closer in the AL that year.

Miguel Tejada, Aaron Rowand ex-Giants

Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO -- Outfielder Aaron Rowand and infielder Miguel Tejada have been designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants, a major shake-up for the stumbling defending World Series champions.

The Giants made the moves Wednesday, when they began the day trailing first-place Arizona by a season-high six games in the NL West race.
Rowand, the team's second-highest paid player behind pitcher Barry Zito, is making $12 million this season and was due the same for 2012. He was batting .233 with four home runs and 21 RBIs in 108 games.

Tejada received a $6.5 million, one-year free agent deal in December to join the Giants. He was batting .239 with four homers and 26 RBIs in 91 games. A 15-year big league veteran, he won the 2002 AL MVP across San Francisco Bay with the Oakland Athletics.

Pitchers shouldn't be in the MVP. They already have the Cy Young.

Not even Pedro 1999-2000?

Is a mythical season like Pedro 2000 in the AL east at Fenway park and at the height of the steroid era not worth an mvp award? Position players that year had outstanding seasons, but none had a greatest of alltime season. Had to wait until 2001 and especially 2004 for that.

That year if Pedro was on early, you might as well have packed you bags and saved yourself the trouble of playing the rest of the game.

If a position player is involved in around 10% total team plate appearances impacting the game, a pitcher throwing 220 innings is directly controlling about 15% of the entire season. Not quite the gap 35 games makes compared to playing 150+ games.

No pitcher should qualify for the MVP. They are not everyday players. Anyway, the Cy Young is the pitchers version of the MVP. The voters have the same mindset as me which is why there hasn't been a pitcher MVP in some time.
