So Selig made a really bad decision, barring the Mets from wearing 9/11 tribute caps and is now mad that the public found out about it. Nice one Bud. You should feel embarrassed.

Mets angered Bud Selig

New York Mets manager Terry Collins says "hat flap" has become a distraction. Bud Selig would reportedly take it a step further.

Major League Baseball's commissioner called the Mets on Sunday night irate that the club had gone public with the news that his office had prevented players from wearing the caps of Sept. 11 first responders for that night's game at Citi Field, the New York Post reported.

A Mets official told the newspaper that the commissioner said the team threw the league "under the bus."

"Selig got embarrassed by it," the official told the Post. "The game got moved into prime time (on ESPN) because of 9/11, and MLB ended up getting embarrassed."

Selig should be embarrased! What a terrible thing to do not allowing players wear the tribute caps, especially in NY

Even more bizarre is the fact that "MLB disciplinary czar" Joe Torre apparently advised Selig to come to this decision. I can't believe Torre of all people would come to that decision given he's a lifelong New Yorker and coached the Yankees through 9/11.

I was just thinking of this. Lets say Verlander finished the season, leading in Strikeouts, and wins(Both NL and AL). But his ERA was only the best in the AL. It was because Johnny Cueto had a better ERA in the NL.

Would you say Verlander Had the MLB triple Crowd or just the AL triple Crowd?

Personally, I would not count Cueto. Why you might ask. This is the reason(from stats right now). (not counting Verlanders start tonight).

Cueto has pitched only 152.1 innings, while Verlander has pitched 229.0. He has pitched 76.9 innings more. That is not fair to Verlander if they dont give him the MLB triple Crowd.

I would not really complain if Cueto pitched 190+ innings. But 76.9 less, there is no way his ERA would stay that low, if he pitched about the same amount of innings.

The triple crown is only for offense (when a player leads their league in batting average, HR's & RBI's).

EDIT: Nevermind. I Found some info and I was actually right....

In Major League Baseball, a player earns the Triple Crown when he leads a league in three specific statistical categories. For batters, a player must lead the league in home runs, run batted in (RBI), and batting average;[1] pitchers must lead the league in wins, strikeouts, and earned run average (ERA).

These final 3 weeks of baseball will be getting quite intense, the NL is pretty much wrapped up, but still a few close division and wild card races to be decided in the AL

I was in Russia when Mo got his 500th save. The game was on ESPN and they showed a replay. The 8 hour time difference made for some great morning baseball on the cruise ship,

I couldn't stay up to watch the whole game last night so I only saw the highlights. And what is this, AJ did not implode? Inconceivable!

Sports Illustrated did a MLB player's poll on who is the "meanst" player in baseball. Guess that can be interpreted a few ways. Most of them make sense. I think A-Rod is only on there because most players just dislike his personality, or lack there of. I wouldn't call him especially "mean."

1. A.J. Pierzynski
2. Chase Utley
3. Milton Bradley
4. Carlos Zambrano
5. Vicente Padilla
6. Alex Rodriguez
7. Chris Carpenter
8. Albert Pujols
9. Nyjer Morgan
10. Kevin Youkilis

The Pirates clinched their 19th straight losing season today despite being 51-44 and leading the division on July 20.
