Anyone know what the deal is with Sabathia? I've heard multiple "MLB insiders" come out and say he'll probably use his opt out clause and leave. I know Sabathia never wanted to play for the Yankees and the signing was purely about the money, but I have a hard time believing they's just let him go without pulling all the stops to get him to stay.

He'll opt out, but I don't think he'll leave. He'll be the number one starter in the market. I think A-Rod had an opt out clause in his contract as well, when he became a free agent a few years ago. It worked out pretty well for him.

This is one of those scenarios where I wish we weren't such spendthrifts, having CC for 3-4 years would go a long way towards making us contenders in the near future.

The reason he's going to opt out is because he's going to want a 6-7 year contract. He's not going to do a 3-4 year deal. I also don't think you can call the Twins thrifty when they had the 9th highest payroll this year.

Its amazing how the series went for the Yanks, the pitching was pretty solid and kept the games close, but at the end it was their "high" powered offense that lost this series, 11 runners left on base last night

They sure didn't play like they had the 9th highest payroll and I wonder where that money was when Delmon Young was being traded to the Royals instead of retained.

It felt like the Yanks were always at bat last night, but they just could not capitalize. Intense game, I'm obviously happy with the outcome.

The guy would be like 38 by the end of that deal. I guess for a team like NY with the money to spend it's still worth it for maybe the 3-4 productive years they'd get. But does anyone seriously think this guy will hold up as a star pitcher past maybe 34-35? I sure don't with his weight issues.

We can use David Wells as an example of a heavy pitcher still being effective after 35:

36: 17-10 4.82ERA 231.2IP 102ERA+ (Blue Jays)
37: 20-8 4.11ERA 229.2IP 123ERA+ (Blue Jays)
38: 5-7 4.47ERA 100IP (hurt) 104ERA+ (White Sox)
39: 19-7 3.75ERA 206.1IP 118ERA+ (Yankees)
40: 15-7 4.14ERA 213IP 106ERA+ (Yankees)
41: 12-8 3.73ERA 195.2IP 104ERA+ (Padres)
42: 15-7 4.45ERA 184IP 102ERA+ (Red Sox)

Okay so that's not worth 23 million annual but still very productive. Perhaps front-load and drop his salary into the low to mid teen range at the tail end of the deal.

You realize that games are moved because of networks right, its not just MLB. Its what happens also week 8 on in the NFL, NBC gets to choose which Sunday game it wants moved post week 8 to the 8pm Start time. Networks have way to much say in what times games get played.

CC was all about money thats 100% right they started offering him at 15 million he said no they took it up 4x to like 21/22 million FINALLY he said ok. CC is not worth that money hes a workhorse yes but his stuff is not that good, He actually lost velocity on his fastball when he dropped like 25 lbs. a few years ago.

Its funny I have a feeling the 2007 trade that could have been is going to be the one thing that's going to bite the Tigers in the ass. There was an offer made by Toronto Roy Halliday for Rick Porcello and Ryan Perry, Tigers never made the trade. Hind sight is 20/20 I guess but they had an offer for a boneified starter that would have given them an extra edge.

The Tigers are truly not the same team as when we played Texas last the Delmon Young pickup really put this team over the edge.

I think they more or less have to extend CC though. I mean are there any other aces on the market this offseason? Doesn't seem like it. Even extending Sabathia th Yankees are going to need some big moves with their rotation. All they really have to rely on is CC and Nova. Not sure how much more guys like Garcia and Colon can give them.

I expect the Yankees to declare Swisher's 10.25M option will be declined any minute now. Batting .169 in 147 postseason plate appearances.

lived in Wisconsin my whole life and it's amazing how many closet Brewer fans you see jump out of the woodwork when they go to the playoffs / win the division not to mention the people who only know about Braun and know no one else

not a fan of the team, or baseball, but i also don't dislike them. watching the game right now because well, it would be neat to see them win, but i won't care if they lose (and will actually be amused by how hateful everyone in the city will be tomorrow if they did lose) and one thing i firmly believe and the playoffs don't change it...

baseball is so god awful to watch on tv and in person! sooo boring!

i just... i just cannot watch it and stay interested at all for the life of me. and everyone else looks so into it! i just don't get it. which is weird since i'm absolutely insane for football and of all things, hockey

Wow... I thought you had to be exaggerating his sucky postseason stats. Turns out you're not. Swisher is 21 for 147 batting in the postseason with 6 TOTAL RBI's. That might be the worst postseason average for a hitter with >100 at-bats in MLB history.

Watching baseball in person is something I've never enjoyed. We have a minor league club up the street from me (Daytona Cubs) and I go to at most a game or two per year. Baseball, unlike football and basketball, is something I prefer to watch on TV than attending the game.

John Axford with the first blown save of the playoffs. Brewers and Diamondbacks tied 2-2.

I disagree, i think watching baseball is awesome, thats why most of us post in this thread on a daily basis, becuase we love baseball, doesnt make a difference whether its in person or on tv

Brewers just blew the game in the 9th... tied 2-2 going to the 10th now

You think that's bad, what about their $275+ Million dollar man batting .111, that's right A-rod batted .111 in the ALDS going 2 for 18.. They only owe him another $150+ Million over the next 6 years, money well spent
