This is insane, you can't script a story like this in Boston.

Another game rain delayed. There has to be more rain delays in this year's playoffs than any season ever played.

Rain delay in the Tigers-Rangers game. Fox estimates a 5:45 Eastern start time.

That was a perfect throw by Napoli to catch Jackson stealing.

Unreal... Cruz did it again! He's carrying Texas to the World Series. One of the best playoff series for a player ever.

It's great to see him finally heating up since coming off the injury.

You have to love a lineup that has Nelly hitting seventh.

Cruz did nothing in the LDS against Tampa, hitting 1 for 15. In the ALCS he's 5 for 14 with 2 game winning HR's and 9 RBI's.

I just cannot see Detroit winning the next 3 games, the last 2 played in Texas. Looks like the Rangers will get a second chance at a championship. Sucks they won't have home field advantage regardless of who they face in the WS. They had a much better record than St. Louis.

I was just thinking that. We finally get a a couple of WS' berths, (too early ) and the NL finally wins a couple of AS games. Stupid Selig.

Something has to be better than all-star game winner, but I'm not sure what.

Need look no farther than the NBA finals this last year to see that "best record" doesn't necessarily make sense either, since Dallas had a better record against both the West and the East than the Heat did, but less wins since the Heat got to beat up more on the easy East. This disparity in record quality would be way worse in the MLBs than in the NBA too.

I've actually pondered what would happen if the home team in the World Series was based on interleague record.

Should be best record. Had a more difficult schedule? Too friggin bad. NBA and NHL teams also play the bulk of their games against in-conference opponents and nobody ever complains about best record determining home advantage in the finals. Even rotating home field advantage between leagues for the World Series like it used to be was better than the pointless All-Star game deciding it.

That would bring a very interesting twist to things if that was done.

I'd only agree with that if the number of interleague games were increased greatly. Basing homefield advantage based on 15 or 18 interleague games is as bad as using the All-Star game to determine it.

For reference sake here are this year's interleague records for teams still alive.

Texas 9-9
St. Louis 8-7
Milwaukee 6-9
Detroit 7-11

Even worse in using interleague games is the fact that teams play different numbers of interleague games, ranging from 15-18.

WTF is up with this early scheduling, i didnt even know theres a game on right now ... Looks like Tigers got this one up 7-4 in the 8th inning, ... Also, note to Tigers, DO NOT pitch to Nelson Cruz if you want to win, just a thought....

I wasn't talking about team interleague record, I was talking combined interleague record. *EDIT* This year it was 131-121 in favor of the AL. That's a decent sample size.

And yes, people _do_ complain that a tougher schedule makes you lose home field advantage. You just choose to ignore those people. /shrug. This would be brutal in Baseball since the schedules are so ridiculously different. In baseball especially I think flipping back and forth is WAY better than using best record.

I'll bet if you did a poll of sports fans you'd get >75%, probably much higher, supporting best record home field advantage in any sport. You're talking about a league winning 52% of the games, not exactly an overwhelming endorsement of AL power.

Interleague play is one of the most annoying things MLB has done anyway IMO. Baseball far was more fun when the AL and NL only met in the World Series. But then again the Divisional Series match ups are a waste of time to me too. The fact that there were only 4 divisions and you had to win the division to make the playoffs made the regular season more meaningful than having silly little best of 5 first round series.
