Whew you had me worried, because I was just thinking how massively different Texas looked this year compared to last, and then I see your post.

Of course I just came from ESPN's boards at the time, where (some) Brewers and Cards fans had convinced themselves that this year's Rangers was way worse than last year's and thus it was an easy victory for the NL team (whoever it was), so I was clearly in a weird state of mind. I need to stay away from that place for my own Sanity.

Only guy in Free Agency, but Nelson Cruz and Elvis Andrus both are entering arbitration. I don't pretend to know exactly what that means though because baseball's arbitration rules are completely beyond me.

Darrin Oliver and Endy Chavez are both going into FA as well, although neither would be that big of a loss I don't think.

Texas was only 13th in payroll at $92 mill this season. From what I've seen of the Ryan ownership group they seem willing to spend money. They'll probably be ok with increasing payroll quite a bit for 2012.

Well there it is - Texas vs. St. Louis. What bad luck for Texas. The AL had won the All-Star every year for like a decade and all of a sudden both years they make the Series the NL gets home field advantage. The Rangers won 6 games more than the Cards too.

Still Texas is favored to beat St. Louis in the World Series. I'll say Texas in 6 games.

The Rangers are by far the superior team to the Cardinals. There really isn't one phase of the game, outside of Pujols, where the Cards are better. It was fluky more than anything else last year how the Giants beat them (well that and some great pitching by the Giants).

I could easily see this series being a sweep. If the Braves hadn't choked away the last month, the NL would have had a different team in the World Series.

Giants beating them wasent fluky, the Rangers were straight dominated in every aspect of the game, it wasent even close, not sure how that was "fluky"

But I agree that this year it wont be close, Rangers in 4 or 5 games...

The last Cardinals team to make the World Series was a crappy 83-78. That team won the WS in 5 short games. In MLB the favorites have a funny habit of blowing it in the World Series.

Truth be told I'm normally a supporter of these Senators mentioned, but this is just silly.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2011...ll-ban-tobacco

Quote:
Senators urge baseball to ban tobacco

U.S. senators and health officials are taking on a baseball tradition older than the World Series itself: chewing tobacco on the diamond.

With the Series set to begin Wednesday between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, the senators, along with health officials from the teams' cities, want the players union to agree to a ban on chewing tobacco at games and on camera. They made the pleas in separate letters, obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press.

"When players use smokeless tobacco, they endanger not only their own health, but also the health of millions of children who follow their example," the senators wrote to union head Michael Weiner.

The letter was signed by Dick Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, and fellow Democrats Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Senate Health Committee Chairman Tom Harkin of Iowa.

The senators noted that millions of people will tune in to watch the World Series, including children.

"Unfortunately, as these young fans root for their favorite team and players, they also will watch their on-field heroes use smokeless tobacco products," they wrote.

Last year's World Series was one of the more lopsided I've ever seen.

Total runs:
San Francisco - 29
Texas - 12

San Francisco won by 4, 9, 4 and 2 runs each victory. Texas won only one game by 2 runs. They hammered Cliff Lee too.

I've been reading that talks between the Cubs and Red Sox for compensation for GM Theo Epstein are not going well, and yesterday the Chicago Tribune had a story that suggested that there is a real possibility that the teams may not agree to a deal and that the Red Sox could keep Epstein next year and pay him but not give him any duties. If this were to happen there is speculation that the Cubs would hire one of Epstein's friends as GM (such as Padres GM Jed Hoyer or VP Josh Byrnes) and then have Epstein join the team in 2013 as the Cubs President. I'd be surprised if that happened but so far the Red Sox have been asking for some of the Cubs best pitchers, initially asking for Matt Garza and then reportedly asking for Andrew Cashner, and from the sounds of it the Cubs don't want to give up a top player for Epstein.

Prediction.

Cardinals in 7. With me being a life long Cardinals fan, I have to be optimistic.

It will get done. I don't see Epstein going back to Boston even if somehow the Cubs thing doesn't work out. Epstein is more than likely going to be President of the Cubs and hire a GM once everything is official.

I'm going to say the Rangers in 5. I think the Cards will win game 1 at home behind Carpenter and then, forget it. The Texas bullpen will take care of business and the heavy lumber in their lineup will pound the Redbirds.
