I think a better story would be a team like Texas who after losing Cliff Lee was supposed to regress this year. A lot of people picked the Angels to come out of the West with the loss of Lee. Almost nobody had the Rangers anywhere near the World Series. Meanwhile the Cardinals were predicted as a post-season team pretty much everywhere.

Let's face it, as impressive as the Cardinals story is, it's not really their story. The Cards aren't in the postseason without the Braves tanking, and the Cards didn't do that. As impressive as their comeback was, it's not like they went 25-1 in September.

But they did go 18-8 in September, and 23-9 in the last 32 games.....that a .719 winning percentage......pretty impressive if you ask me.......yes the Braves choking helped, but with loosing a lot of key players, like Wainright, the Cards were pretty much written off too....

Crazy what one game does for a player. Pujold pretty much has gotten a pass in this series because of one game. It was the best single world series game of all time but only the first homerun was actually important. The rest was impressive stat padding. Other than game 3, Pujols hasn't done anything. And by anything, I mean he was zero hits. Oh sure they intentionally walk him out of fear but his agent won't be able to milk that game for as much extra money as he originally thought he would if Pujols doesn't contribute to a World Series win tonight.

For tonight Washington I'm begging you,dDon't call down to the pen for Ogando.

St. Louis also had a more difficult playoff path. They had to beat 102 and 96 win teams in the NL playoffs, both on the road, to make it to the World Series. Among them was a Philly team with nothing but aces.

thats no lie there.....I've been more impressed with those victories than anything......Philly would have done better to let Atlanta win in those last couple games, then the Cards never would have made it, and Philly would probably be in the WS.....just my opinion.....I think Philly would have had an easier time with Atlanta....sorry to say that about your team though......STL just had Phillies number this year.....I think we were 6-3 against them......but I guess philly wanted to win 102 games....???

You got it right there, I think Pujols agent is the bigger problem....his agent worked for an agency, got Pujols as a client, realized what a gold mine Pujols is, broke off on his own, and now needs to land a big contract in order to make a name for himself in the sports agent world.......

Now I'm concerned about Josh Hamilton's mental health. Not looking good for Texas tonight. There's a certain medical diagnosis for having two-way conversations with imaginary people.

http://espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/story/...-god-called-hr

Quote:
Josh Hamilton said God told him he'd hit a homer Thursday night. But that's the only promise he received.

Hamilton's towering home run into the Busch Stadium lights in the top of the 10th inning pushed the Texas Rangers to a 9-7 lead and moved the franchise for a second time in two innings to the precipice of its first World Series championship.

But the prize ultimately was yanked away when St. Louis third baseman David Freese hit a walk-off homer in the 11th for a 10-9 win.

Hamilton, who has been playing this postseason with a painful muscle pull or tear in his groin or maybe his abdomen, said divine intervention took over when he stepped to the plate in the 10th.

"He told me, 'You haven't hit one in a while, and this is the time you're going to,' " said Hamilton, who had gone 65 at-bats in the postseason without a home run. "You know what? I probably had the most relaxed, peaceful at-bat I've had of the whole series at that moment. It's pretty cool. You ought to try it sometime."

I'm sure God has more pressing issues than Hamilton's HR drought.

Or like saving that fan who Josh Hamilton tossed a ball too and not allowing him to die a horrible death right in front of his kid. Nah... guess Josh hitting that meaningless home run was more important.

Cards Game 7 lineup has just been announced. Theriot is being moved up to leadoff, followed by Craig, Pujols, Berkman, Freese, Molina, Furcal Schumaker, Carpenter. Good move dropping Furcal IMO.

Pujols lack of hits in the World Series is being badly exaggerated. He isn't hitting because they aren't pitching to him.

In the WS:

Batting Avg - .261
On Base% - .414

For a power hitter on base % is the key stat and Pujols is getting on base. He's also 2nd among all players on both teams in runs scored in the WS with 6.

He's a man of faith, I have no problem with this. Unfortunately we can't go deeper into the conversation than this due to forum rules, but please don't dog on a man for believing in God.

Four of those runs were from one game.

Game 1: 0-2 with a walk and run
Game 2: 0-4 no walks no runs
Game 4: 0-4 no walks no runs
Game 5: 0-2 3 intentional walks and no runs
Game 6: 1-5 with a run and a walk

Game 3 and Game 5 is what gives him his high obp. So in that sense his .414obp is misleading as well.

I have no problem with what he personally believes either. I just wish these athletes would keep it to themselves. The world is in a crappy state. If some god gave me a message telling me I'm due a home run I'd tell him to stop worrying about a trivial game and start focusing on doing something about the majority of the world living in abject poverty. Priorities people, priorities.

Hard to believe it's been 42 years (1969 Mets) since Nolan Ryan won his one and only championship ring. In 27 years as a pitcher he only started a total of 7 postseason games.

I believe the Rangers first games of the 2012 season are against the White Sox. Robin Ventura is taking over as manager of the White Sox next season. It would be amusing seeing the Rangers with Ryan as owner getting their championship rings with Robin Ventura in the opposing dugout. Maybe Nolan can kick his ass again for old times sake.
