Stupid greedy players and alumni. Fans come from all over and you want to fleece them for more money. Haven't you made enough already? Even worse now is that some players sign autograph exclusivity contracts.

Pacioretty tried the same thing in montreal last year (well not those prices but still $50+) and many people who lined up unaware of the fees were pissed. His signature isn't even worth the ink from the pen.

I'm a bit surprised about Pujols when it comes to money. Everything from a new contract to signing baseballs he seems to want a fortune. He never struck me as a player "all about the money" until recently. The amount he was askign the Cards for was just ridiculous.

I love that the ballplayers can't sign on the sweet spot of the ball if you're waiting in the stands at a stadium or such. Eric Karros taught me that when I was young.

Yeah, all the "free" ones I have, they never sign in the sweet spot....pisses me off....if I'm standing there with a dozen balls, ok, you know what I'm trying to do, but if I'm standing there with my kid and one ball, they know what its for......when I raced, and a little kid wanted my autograph, I did whatever he wanted me to do....if some little kid thought of me enough that he wanted my autograph, I did it, and then would thank him for coming and we even gave them pictures all kinds of stuff....I signed my name so many times, its not even funny......but these guys these days are a bunch of d*cks....all about the money.

Mark Cuban

He said he'd bid as long as the asking price doesn't exceed 1 billion. They again the owners probably don't want a renegade to join their country club. Steinbrenner was enough for them.

I've never understood the criticism of Cuban. Granted he occasionally says some things that are inappropriate but at least he truly cares about his team and has put the money into the team and facility to take them from a cellar-dweller to the NBA champions. Would the NBA prefer he be more like the Suns owner who can't afford to own a team and sells his first round picks most years? If I'm MLB I'd love to have an owner that you know is going to truly care about the team and not view it as an investment.

But as a side note, I think the price is going to end up exceeding $1 billion. LA has too many vain rich people that view owning a team as the ultimate status-symbol and I see a bidding war happening. You could also argue that with it's TV deal almost up that the team is worth more than $1 billion.

Luckily I already have a Mays jersey, (I didn't pay that much, not far though), but I'm not gonna spend that much for him to sign my bat......bad thing is, there will be a bunch of people standing there who did.
And at those prices they are leaving like a few bucks of profit (if any)

You can find good sellers online (EBAY who stock the MLB tagged gear, without adding in the price so Willie Mays can get his).

My guess it means if you buy it and in 2 years you send it to Beckett, JSA, PSA/DNA, exc. and they say it isn't real (you might have a shot at getting your money back lol)

The Dallas Mavericks were about as bad as the Clippers when he bought them. He turned the franchise from a celler-dweller with an empty arena into a team that wins 55+ games every season and an NBA champion. And that's in a sport with a salary cap.

Some owners don't even go to their own team's games, and when they do they hide out in their luxury box. Cuban goes to every game, cheers on his team the whole game and chats with the fans. I've always liked the guy.

Thats what owning a team should be all about.....I was glad to see Ryan in the stands at all the WS games.....didn't look like he was talking to anyone, but at least he was sitting with the "common folk"....

Cuban is an ideal and true sports team owner, but I think the whole old money, new money plays a part. Cuban was in line to buy the Cubs and the owners said no. Even though he had more money than Ryan's group, he basically had no chance of winning the bid for the Rangers either. They just don't want him. It's a sad reality.

What's really amusing is the fact that MLB let the Japanese buy the Mariners many years ago. Nintendo still owns them, and they've been deadbeat owners ever since. I've read that before that none of the executives of Nintendo have EVER attended a single Mariners game. Apparently MLB would rather have foreign deadbeat owners running a franchise than allow Mark Cuban, who loves sports like a diehard fan, to buy a team.

Giants acquire Melky Cabrera

Quote:
The Royals traded outfielder Melky Cabrera to the San Francisco Giants for left-hander Jonathan Sanchez on Monday

Cabrera hit .305 with 44 doubles, 18 home runs and 87 RBIs in his first season in Kansas City. He was the first Royals player with at least 200 hits in a season since 2000.

Love the move, we needed to trade Sanchez a while, especially with the emergence of Surkamp & Vogelsong, Hope Cabrera has a repeat of last year, great start to our off season

Great news! With Freddy and Buster back in the line up as well we should be an offensive powerhouse.

Smith fired as Twins GM; Ryan named as interim.

After losing 99 games this season something had to change.

Quote:
In a surprising move, the Twins have announced that Terry Ryan will take over as interim general manager in place of Bill Smith, with team president Dave St. Peter citing "philosophical differences" within the team's leadership.

The move is effective immediately.
