Even though it was never really in doubt, it is good to see another clean CBA agreement in baseball, (even if it adds 2 "play-in games")

I'm so sick of seeing players on mediocre teams get robbed. How is it Kemp's fault he plays on a mediocre team? Just give the award to the best friggin player.

There actually was a formula devised for estimating how many wins a player os "worth" to his team. It's called "Wins Above Replacement" and here are the 2011 results:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/le...-leaders.shtml

Kemp - 10.0
Braun - 7.7
Everyone else - 7.6 or lower

It's not even close. Kemp had the best stats AND was probably the most important player to his team.

I don't understand. One step forward and two steps back. The voters no longer use playoff berth and wins to judge the best pitcher but yet they still do for MVP's

MLB voters are so clueless.

Exactly - look at how easily Kershaw won the Cy Young yet his teammate Kemp got hosed.

All I know is I no longer understand what "MVP" means in baseball. This is the first time I've really been annoyed by the winners since 2003 (I thought Delgado should have won the AL MVP that year).

Voters gave Shannon Stewart three first place votes that year

The voting overall this year has been a joke. One voter on AL manager of the year actually voted in August (ergo he didn't vote for Maddon) which is a joke. That person should never be allowed to vote again. What's worse about AL MVP is that Bautista finished 3rd.

Manager of the year is really silly. They might as well just re-name the thing "best manager of a team with a modest payroll that exceeds expectations." That's more or less who gets the award every year.

I'd say keep the Cy Young as is since the voters usually give it to the right guy. Re-name MVP "Offensive player of the year" so we don't have this silly duplication of awards.

There is an offensive player of the year award. Both Kemp and Bautista won the Hank Aaron award. However, the offensive guy should usually be the MVP as well unless they can't field whatsoever and another guy has slightly worse stats. Ellsbury may have won a gold glove but Bautista is a solid versatile fielder (3B and RF effectively) with the strongest arm. Kemp beat Braun both in offense and fielding so I have no idea what to say there.

Of all the major sports, Baseball is the least dependant on single players for success. Manning proves a QB can be the team while in the NBA a superstar can plug holes as well. Steve Nash, Kobe and Lebron did that. But In Baseball, there's so many variables that no single player alone wills a team to the playoffs. It's impossible. Hockey is similar but not as much.

The voters really have to smarten up and forget W-L. Everybody knows identical stats on a good team and I mean identical (raw, situational, clutch, home/road splits) means Kemp and Bautista cruise to mvp awards. That's why it's such a joke. How the voters don't see the hypocrisy is beyond me.

I meant an offensive player of the year award that matters. Most people probably don't even know the Hank Aaron award exists, and those who do don't care. It's not a prestigious award and everyone knows it.

The NFL is really bad with it's awards. Probably the oddest of any league. They have Offensive POY, Defensive POY and MVP. The MVP has gone to either a QB or RB every year since 1986 when Lawrence Taylor. And quite often the different players win Offensive POY and MVP in the same year. It would make more sense if they just eliminated MVP.

Kemp had zero help while Braun had Fielder as protection. The same thing applies for Bautista (having zero help).

This whole voting system is BS, Kemp nearly won the quadruple crown and single handedly carried the Dodgers the entire season.

...and Bautista led the AL in most of the major offensive categories (HR, OPS, Slugging %, Walks), had it not been for poor offensive help in front of him he would have been near the top in RBI, and Runs.

If making the playoffs is the criteria for being voted MVP then their heads are seriously up their a*&^%.

Blue jays obp as a team (including Bautista) was only .317. Bautista's obp was .447. It's no wonder his rbi and run totals were low. His protection was Lind and his .295 obp . Ellsbury's obp was a good but not amazing .376 while the Red Sox sported a solid .349 team obp.
