Rumors abound that the Orioles are strongly considering Fielder. Pujols is not going to get the money he probably deserves because both the Yanks and Sox are set at first base for years. That knocks out any chance of him coming anywhere close to A-Rod's contract.

But is Fielder considering Baltimore?

The Marlins have boosted their 9-year offer to Pujols. I never thought in a million years Miami could nab Pujols but it seems like a possibility.

Wow, getting Pujols AND Fielder out of the Central is almost as good as the Cubs signing one of the two, and a lot less expensive.

It looks like the Jays are unlikely to pursue Fielder. Anthoupolous said he refuses to give 7+ year deals. Fielder is talking about wanting a 200+ million contract which would mean 7+ years.

Fielder is not getting a $200 million offer. I'd say best case scenario for him would be an offer comparable to Mark Teixeira's 8-year, $180 million deal and without the Yankees, Red Sox, or Phillies in the bidding I'm not sure if he'll get that. If I were a GM I wouldn't pay that much for him though and wouldn't give him more than 7 years because big guys usually fall off when they get into their 30s. I also think he needs to go to an AL team because I think in 4-5 years he'll have to become a DH.

I don't think 200 is realistic although stranger things have happened. I like the Jays stance of not giving long term contracts. They learned the hard way with Wells and Rios though lucky for them they got rid of Rios's big cointract quickly and given Wells contract was severely backloaded, they avoided the multiple 20+ million salary seasons. It should be like the NBA with a five year maximum term.

If someone is dumb enough to give Werth $156 million, someone is bound to offer Fielder $200 million

Fox Sports says the Marlins new 10-year offer to Pujols is worth more than $200 million. A sticking point appears to be a no-trade clause. Pujols wants a 5-year no-trade clause, at which point he'd have his 5/10 rights which would give him a no-trade clause for the remaining 5 years of the deal. The Marlins don't want to give Pujols a full 5-year no trade clause so someone will have to compromise. Pujols' agent will be meeting with the Cardinals today.

Pujols will remain with the Cardinals. You can bank on it.

Where the hell are the Marlins getting all this surplus of money from all of a sudden

Is it from not spending the past few years

It's called revenue from the new stadium.

I've been saying that all season but the Marlins seem to be going after everyone. Here are the likely candidates

1. Cardinals
2. Marlins
3. Cubs

I just think the anything more than 8 years for Pujols is moronic. He's 32, but there is a lot of speculation that he's older than that. Even if he is 32 there's no way he'll be playing at a high level into his 40s. This contract is going to become an albatross for whoever signs him.

The only way I would consider that long of a deal is if that deal was front-loaded. I'd rather pay $30 million year 1-3 then 6-8.

The contract offer from the Marlins I've heard is 9 years at $225 million. I still think Pujols is fishing for the best offer and hoping the Cards will match it. I bet Hanley gets traded as soon as he proves he is a good player again. There are rumblings he is upset with Reyes taking his position.

I wonder if the Marlins are continuing in their tradition of loading up on talent for one year every so often like 1997. After they win they have a firesale.

When they had some money again in the 2000's, they splurged on Delgado, missed the playoffs then sold everyone off again.

The SEC has launched an investigation into how the Miami Marlins secured public funds to build their $634 million new stadium, the Miami Herald reports.

The team received $500 million in county and city bonds to build the stadium when its owner Jeffrey Loria cried poor and threatened to leave Miami if he couldn't get a new publicly-financed stadium.

The team was never required to open their books and prove they were losing money.

But in 2010, Deadspin got their hands on the Marlins' financials and revealed that the team was actually doing fine financially (turning a $33 million profit in 2008 and 2009).

Now the SEC is looking into how the deal went down to see if any securities laws were broken.
