According to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez, teams have been informed that Yoenis Cespedes is a free agent.
Get your popcorn ready. Cespedes has already attracted the attention of most of baseball's biggest spenders and will likely have his pick of several lucrative opportunities. The 26-year-old outfielder batted .333/.424/.667 with 33 home runs and 99 RBI in 90 games last season in Cuba. The Marlins, Cubs, White Sox, Orioles, Tigers, and Indians seem the most interested, but the Nationals, Yankees, Phillies and Blue Jays have also been linked.

Jose Bautista’s drug testing seems something less than random

Bautista spoke at a banquet the other night and noted that in the past two years — the two years which coincided with his tremendous uptick in homers — he has been given sixteen drug tests. In the two years before that he had three total. So I would guess that it’s safe to say that the random drug testing thing has been something less than random in his case.

People just need to leave this guy alone, hes been tested numerous times and has yet to fail anything... Guys a stud, one of the best in the game right now, guess jealous people are gonna hate no matter what

The testing is relatively easy to beat if you know what you are doing and have some idea of when you are going to be tested. It's why many consider the NFL testing program a joke.

He puts up another good season like he did last year, he'll get a multi year deal (he's only 27 BTW).

Well Andruw was actually decent as a reserve in 2011. Probably his best season since his great 2007 collapse. I'm still trying to figure out what happened. He was on track for the HOF through 2006, then beginning in 2007 he had a complete collapse and turned into a sub-.230 hitter. Just a complete mental breakdown is all I can think.

The Rangers reportedly didn't sign Prince Fielder because one of their co-owners preferred Hamilton, but I can't imagine you can give Hamilton a massive contract with his substance abuse problems and the threat of a relapse. They could maybe put in a clause that voids the contract if he drinks or does drugs but I'm sure the Player's Association would fight a clause like that and it may not be allowed under the CBA.

I want to know what prompted it. But I'd actually want that in my contract maybe something that says no collection of paid money, but you would lose future compensation that way if he made it 3-4 years of say an 8 year deal he wouldn't be subject to repay what he'd made, plus that would help me stay on the wagon .

Ya, I'd demand at least the right to void his contract if I'm the Rangers and about to offer him a long-term deal. This recent relapse isn't his first. Back in 2009 there were pics taken of him partying at a bar in Arizona and reports that he was asking bar patrons where he could obtain cocaine. Even putting aside the potential drug issues Hamilton has also had some injury problems. On average he's missed nearly 40 games per year in his 4 seasons with Texas.
