Tim Kurkijan just reported that one of his sources informed him that there was a "mishandling of Braun's sample that was not according to the contract," hence Braun's successful appeal.

it's been going around that the drug was some kind of medication for herpes or something along those lines.

Very shocking that Braun actually won. No player had ever overturned a doping suspension and I didn't think he'd be the first.

i know this is gonna look bad since i'm from WI and prefer the Brewers over any other team.

BUT....if the herpes thing is true and that's what caused the spike, w/that being an actual medical condition.....do you guys think he still deserves to be suspended??

Also a life-long Brewers fan. Glad to have him back. The only thing I will say is that MLB's specimen collector screwed this up badly. It will make everyone question the process. Point is, there's really no way to tell what happened with his tests. I personally thought he was going to be suspended and he should have been if the test was a true positive. I don't care if it was medication for whatever; he was supposed to clear it with team doctors and MLB. From what i read, there was no evidence that he had received permission to use any medication that might spike his testosterone levels.
and as for those thinking that Selig was in on this; give it a rest. We now will never know what happened so starting conspiracies is pointless. And as for his numbers this season; we'll see. It's a different lineup without Prince in it. AND keep in mind that he never tested positive for anything in previous years. My point is that he's been consistently good without help of PEDs.

well....that's the rumor that's been going around...that the medication he was given caused the spike.

just so we're clear, i'm not supporting the whole drug use thing, i'm just wondering if that is the case, if it ever comes to light, if people would feel the same way about him getting off.

yes, it should've been cleared w/the league...but it's a pretty sensitive subject u gotta agree.

that's why he pursued the appeal when others thought it was pointless, if it's a health issue, they can't really question that....just like any other employeer.

but, like i was saying, if it was a result of the meds and his dr. could prove that, him getting off is the right thing.

should the guy really be punished b/c he's a potential man-*****??

Judging by Selig's love for the brewers he might have given Selig it

Yep, according to SI here's what happened:

Quote:
According to sources with knowledge of the two-day arbitration hearing in January, at least part of Braun's defense hinged on his sample having been collected on a Saturday afternoon -- Oct. 1, after the Brewers beat the Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the NLDS -- but not in time for the doping control officer to get it to FedEx that day. The sample was not delivered to FedEx for shipping to a World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited lab in Montreal until the following Monday afternoon. The Joint Drug Agreement between the league and players' association specifies, "Absent unusual circumstances, the specimens should be sent by FedEx to the Laboratory on the same day they are collected."

WOW...so he was cleared based on the shipping date rather than having a clean sample. Thus, we must assume he juiced but won't be suspended because the sample left on a later flight than it should have.

He cheated and is no different than Big Mac, Sosa, A-Roid, Bonds and Clemens. Way to let down the millions of Brew Crew fans out there and put a black cloud over the Harley-Davidson city. Have fun defending your eternally stained MVP Award...Dipsh*t.
