Granted I didn't go to any games last year out of protest but the season before that it was quite...entertaining watching all the yelling and fighting in the stands. I remember some chick decked out in Giant gear carrying a huge sign..."Dodgers Suck" and screaming at Dodger fans as well. Right infront of the police.

Fans, now thats a whole other story, theres always a few in the bunch who take things too far, of course this goes for every fan base....

From what I've read McCourt bought the Dodgers for $430 mill in 2004. According to reports the team is being sold for about $2 billion.

I think he took out quite a few loans in that time frame as well, so his profit cant be as big as we think it is....

Normally every year I take my dad to a ballgame for Father's Day, and normally we go to a Toronto game and see a National League team (inter-league play). We've each seen every American League team multiple times so it's cool to see the National Leaguers occasionally. This year we're going to see the Mets in Toronto (May 18) and the Rockies in Detroit (June 16). The Tigers will draw well this year as I got the best available pair, and they're 2 sections past 1B in the lower level. Nothing but single tix remaining between the bags and the plate.

Here's hoping the Jays can continue this high level of play once the season begins.

I bought a new cap the day after the new uni's went on sale. Looking forward to wearing it at each game I'm attending this year (four in total).

Yeah, I've read that McCourt had over $500 million in loans in addition to the $430 in loans when he bought the team. He also has to pay his ex-wife $130 million in their divorce settlement and cover all the taxes from the sale as well as potential back taxes. I'm not sure if the new owners or McCourt will be liable for the ongoing lawsuit from beaten fan Bryan Stow, who will eventually be getting an 8-figure settlement or judgement. McCourt is still going to make hundreds of millions from the sale but nowhere near as much as some think.

What a complete joke opening the season in Japan. Then again it's not like MLB is "America's Pasttime" anymore. The NFL is. I didn't even realize opening day already happened till noticing it online today.

Yes, apparently the season opener was Wednesday in Japan between Seattle and Oakland. The MLB is getting pretty bad with marketing. I suspect most MLB fans are just now realizing the season already started.

That's awesome! I picked up the new Jays hat before Christmas and I just ordered a Brett Lawrie blue alternate Majestic jersey 2 weeks ago.
What i'd give to live in Toronto this summer and check out a bunch of Jays games... then again if they play this well in the regular season they may be sold out every game.

Going to be a great season.... hope we can end our playoff drought.

Gotta respect a guy nearing 50 who can still make a MLB rotation. He's beating out guys who were not even born when he pitched his first MLB game. That would be funny if he somehow pitched a couple more years and made it to 300 wins out of sheer longevity. He's sitting on 267 wins right now.

Jamie Moyer in Rockies rotation at 49

Jamie Moyer, at 49 years old, has made it back in the big leagues.

Moyer earned a spot in the Colorado Rockies' rotation and will start the team's second game of the season.

"It is still Jamie Moyer. It's the Jamie Moyer that was pitching prior to the arm injury that cost him the entire 2011 season. It's the same guy," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said Friday before the team's spring training game against the Texas Rangers at Salt River Fields.

"It's the same worker. It's the same professional. It's the same stuff, same velocity, same pitches. When he's right, same type of effectiveness. You're going to venture into this."

Moyer, entering his 25th major league season, posted a 2.77 ERA this spring and beat out 22-year-old Tyler Chatwood and 28-year-old Guillermo Moscoso for a rotation spot.

"I was excited. I'm happy. I'm honored," Moyer said. "But in the end, like Jim said, `You earned it.' That was my goal coming here."

Moyer will start April 7 against the Houston Astros. He can become the oldest pitcher in major league history to earn a victory.

The last player to play in the majors at 49 was infielder Julio Franco, who finished out the season with the Braves in 2007 after turning 49 in August.

Moyer will be 50 in November.

I really don't think this is a smart deal for the Giants. Cain is a terrific pitcher but they're giving him what amount to 7 years and $141 mill guaranteed with the player option and a no-trade clause. Cain has actually never had more than 14 wins in a season before and has a career losing record. I'll bet the Giants get burned on this one.

The San Francisco Giants have worked out a new contract for All-Star Matt Cain that will make him the highest-paid right-handed pitcher in baseball history.

Cain, who was set to earn about $15 million in the last year of his contract, will have that deal ripped up and will get six years and $127.5 million, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. He gets a player option for 2018 that can bring the total value of the contract to $141 million. Cain receives a full no-trade clause.

The previous record for a right-handed pitcher was Kevin Brown's $105 million contract the Dodgers gave him after the 1998 season.

The 27-year-old Cain went 12-11 last season with a 2.88 ERA, reaching 200 innings for the fifth straight season. He also didn't allow an earned run during the entire 2010 postseason, when the Giants pulled off an improbable World Series championship.

Giants general manager Brian Sabean has said for years his priority is to keep his pitching staff intact for the long haul -- and that hasn't changed. Two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum reached a $40.5 million, two-year deal in late January.
