This is tragic. As the Vandy manager said, "there are no do-overs". Something was bothering this kid and he needed help. I have a family member who suffered from depression and we intervened and convinced her to get help and now she's her old self (through lots of work). If any of you guys know someone like this please help them. There is NO shame in turning to others for answers...Great post Six.

You never know. Serious mental issues can happen even to people who seem on top of the world and yet no loved ones pick up on it until it's too late. When I was in my late-teens to early-20's I can very close to doing the same and most people around me had to clue. Could be the same here - psychological issues nobody around him picked up on.

I was like that and nobody picked up on it. It lasted for about a decade and I was seconds from ending it on quite a few occasions. And not one person close to me picked up on it. And it wasn't drugs or anything like that. In fact I was in college for most of that time and actually still held a job and made good grades. Only dissipated when I broke down and went to a psychiatrist and got medications for the "issues."

Of course being a Magic, Jags and Braves fan does't help matters. Watching those teams play for so many years can make anyone suicidal...

Thanks for sharing and being so candid. You've got big b*lls for being so honest and should be proud of yourself for moving forward the way that you have.

Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, that starting rotation (70's) and Earl Weaver must be wondering WTF has happened to this 70's Powerhouse franchise (along with their fans). It's truly sad...BTW, I miss Earl, he was what a Major League manager should be...short, stout, yappy and scrappy. There is some FANTASTIC You-Tube footage of Earl back in the day...FULL of F-Bombs and every other swear word known to man.

It's actually happened a few times before. I think the Pirates lost to a community college and maybe the Mets. Any idea if the Orioles were playing their better players or just some scrubs? If they were playing their best players it's even worse.

It's a complete disgrace what Peter Angelos did to that franchise. The Orioles once had one of the best fan bases in MLB and still have one of the greatest ballparks in pro sports. It's similar to the Pirates. Those once great teams just have deadbeat owners who won't spend a dime and are content fielding awful teams and collecting welfare, err... I mean luxury tax money from owners who do care about their teams.

Could not have said it better myself. Got to see Clemente in person in Montreal (Jarry Park-1970) and those Buc's teams were Awesome. Another 70's club that was Great were the Royals. Great hitters, Great starting rotation and 5'4" Freddy Patek at shortstop. Man, he was covered in dirt after every ballgame. It sure has changed.

Did any of you guys actually read the article or just the headline? The pitchers and a catcher for college team were actually Orioles players, and most the Oriole named players came out after the 5th inning. Considering it was a charity game I doubt any of the Oriole players were trying to do anything but have fun.

That doesn't change the fact that this once storied ballclub is now a perennial 5th in the AL East. If I were a lifelong O's fan, I'd be pissed beyond reconciliation.

They lost to a community college team. We're not talking a respectable college baseball team. A community college.

Ya, community college is barely half a notch above high school baseball. Just about anyone halfway decent can make a CC team.

I found a previous example of this. In 2009 the Pirates lost to Manatee Community College 6-4. And looking at the box score it appears some of Pittsburgh's starters did play in that game.

I'm sure some are better than others. Still totally unacceptable.
