Are you watching the game tonight? They are redeeming themselves after Sunday nights tough loss.

Question. I was reading about a pitcher who's been accused of a spitball pitch. I get that making the ball wet helps with control\action. How is this different from pitchers wiping their forehead before pitching which I see all the time ?

Bryce Harper is already starting up with his own catch phrases. I actually like this phrase. "Clown question" does accurately describe most of the silly questions sports media likes to ask. They were out of line bringing up his religion to begin with.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/80...tort-takes-off

Quote:
Bryce Harper's comebacks look ready for the big leagues, too.

The 19-year-old Washington Nationals outfielder quipped "That's a clown question, bro" to a Toronto TV reporter who asked if he planned to take advantage of Canada's lower drinking age after belting a long home run in a win over the Blue Jays.

For a brief time, the highest trending topic on Twitter was Harper's response: "That's a clown question, bro." The outfielder's name was also among the site's most popular subjects.

Twitter users have been reformulating the phrase to fit different contexts, too.

In Ontario, the drinking age is 19, not 21 as in the United States. Following the game, a reporter asked Harper whether he planned to celebrate his huge homer with a beer, and what his preferred brand would be.

Harper is a Mormon, a religion that forbids alcohol. A Nationals PR staffer suggested the reporter try a different line of questioning, but Harper was ready.

"I'm not answering that," Harper said. "That's a clown question, bro."

Sure enough, by Wednesday morning, online retailers were offering T-shirts emblazoned with Harper's comment, while fans far and wide were posting tweets about the latest baseball catchphrase.

What a game for Bumgarner last night, 12 k's though 7.2 innings and is now (8-4) on the year!! Not only that, he hit his first HR of his career last night

Cain & Bumgarner is carrying our rotation right now, only if we could get the Lincecum of old

Don't care. I try not to put a true legend like Gehrig in the same sentence with a juicer. I'd think even true Yankee fans wouldn't either. Only current Yankees I'd mention with Gehrig are Jeter and Mariano. Those guy are true greats.

In response to a post Lacit made, all I have to say about the ARod grand slam is to see this post I made a couple days ago...

(Also, I really don't care b/c it's not like ARod's record means anything anyway ('roids) and I switched over to the start of the Thunder/Heat game right before that fateful 8th inning in last night's Braves game, but one of my friends who watched the whole game said apparently Fredi Gonzalez should be fired (my friend was pissed) for several questional managerial/bullpen decisions he made toward the end of that game.)

The Braves didn't need to utilize the bullpen in that Saturday, which was nice, because as you saw in yesterday's game the bullpen has a habit of giving up like 8 runs.

Since all of America loved the home run boom led by Mcguire and Sosa, the commissioner loved it, and all the players benefited from it I have a hard time finding fault with it. It isn't fare to praise them while it's happening while turning a blind eye to it and then suddenly having a change of heart when it's done.

Either way I still consider Hank Aaron the Homerun King...Bonds record is tainted beyond measure.
....and in my mind Roger Maris still holds the single season record of 61.
Sosa corked his bat plus took steroids, Mcguire was a juice head, and so was Bonds. The only legitimate Homerun hitter that I'll respect in the mid 90s is Griffey Jr....he was a beast in his prime.

Lincecum could quite possibly become the next Rick Ankiel....the only question now is can he hit.

He's having a compete mental breakdown on the mound. That's not good cause pitching is all about mechanics and confidence in your pitches...clearly Lincy seems rattled mentally. I think he should take extra batting practice cause he may need to strengthen what hitting skills he has for a position shift.

Gonzalez definitely cost us the game with stupid bullpen management in the game. Everyone knows Venters can't throw a strike to save his life this season, after being the best reliever in baseball the past two years. Letting him walk two batters and then keeping him in to face ARod was a horrible blunder. Gonzalez is a decent manager but his bullpen management this season has been a horrible overreaction to last year, when the press and fans accused him of burning out the pen by September.

Of course there both great as well but Griffey Jr was in a class, homerun wise, above all the others.
Griffey had a 4 year stretch from 96-99 where he hit 49,56,56,and 48 homeruns respectively. Too bad injuries cut his career short...but he still hit 630 HR in his career.

I still don't think it was necessary to make MLB successful in the late-90's through early-00's. MLB is as popular today as it was in those days. Guys like Cap Ripken Jr. doing things the "right way" and smashing the Iron Man streak did as much to save baseball as the sluggers juicing did in the years following the devastating 1994 strike.

Sadly this is probably how future generations will view the juiced ball era.
