Nice to see Mauer healthy and playing so well...he could win another batting crown at this pace.

Another win for the Tigers, 3 out of 4 against the Angels. Everything is going swell in Detroit. Big upcoming series against the White Sox.

Baltimore came back and beat us 4-3. Not a sweep, but we took the series. Yeah, Mauer is hitting .329. When he's healthy he's a force. Also Willingham has a respectable 23 homers. Lol. Not that it matters, we're still in last.

I have the Angels coming away with the AL Pennant...but the Rangers are also worthy competitors.

The Angels have an incredibly balanced offensive attack with the speed of Trout at the top of the order and Pujols and Trumbo driving in the runs.....not to mention their starting rotation (Weaver, Wilson, Haren, Santana, Williams)...that's 3 legitimate aces that could contend with the Phillies all star rotation (if they actually make the playoffs )
I know starting pitching is huge come playoff time but this is the 2009 championship Yankees rotation. That's similar to this year's Yankees starters when it comes to talent.

CC Sabathia
Andy Pettitte
A. J. Burnett
Joba Chamberlain

First big trade of the year goes down involving 10 players with the Blue Jays & Astros....

Quote:
HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros acquired closer Francisco Cordero and outfielder Ben Francisco as part of a 10-player trade with Toronto on Friday.

Houston will also receive four minor leaguers in the deal -- right-handed pitchers Joe Musgrove and Asher Wojciechowski, left-handed pitcher David Rollins, catcher Carlos Perez and a player to be named later.

The Blue Jays, who entered Friday at 45-47 and in last place in the AL East, will receive pitchers Brandon Lyon, J.A. Happ and David Carpenter from Houston.

I'm anxious to see if Ryan Dempster gets the start for the Cubs tonight. He hasn't given up a run in his last 33 innings which is tied for the Cubs franchise record, but it's been rumored that the Cubs want to get a trade done before Dempster's start because of how injury prone he's been this year. Supposedly the Dodgers, Braves, Nationals, and Tigers are all going hard after Dempster.

Yeah the Jays got some pitching help and gave up a couple of useless players and some bottom tier prospects.

With 3/5 of the Jays pitching rotation on the DL they needed to add some arms to at least compete in the AL East....and by dumping the ineffective Cordero and bench player Francisco it was a smart move IMO.

Happ isn't a star pitcher by any means but he's an upgrade over Cecil or Laffey, and Lyon is a definite upgrade over Cordero.

Either way the Jays won't be contenders in the AL East until Gose, D,Arnaud, and Hechavarria are fixtures in the Jays starting lineup. I'm thinking in 2 years or so they should be a threat.

Yeah but there's no way they'll be able to compete against the Angels rotation....especially since the Angels can swing the bat with the best of them.

Lincecum dealing again, 7 strong innings giving up only 2 runs, that's two quality starts in a row now

Yeah I'm hoping the All Star break allowed him to recharge and get his head together.

Hope he stays out there and earns the complete game victory...that would definitely boost his confidence.

So are we convinced yet that the Braves don't have the pitching staff to go far into the postseason (or even make the postseason)?

No. They don't have a consistent staff, but they have guys that can go out and deal. I'm more concerned about their offensive inconsistencies.

If the Braves keep giving up 9 runs per game, the offense isn't going to have a chance in the first place.

And I would call the Braves staff consistently bad. Huddy's the only one earning his salary this year.

Chipper Jones just became the all-time RBI leader among 3B with a 2RBI single (passing George Brett and Mike Schmidt in the past week).

Braves have somehow rallied out of a 9-0 hole to bring this game within one run...
