A couple more reflections on tonight's game:

Tommy Hanson was also the starter who got shelled in this memorable comeback win a couple years ago:
http://www.talkingchop.com/2010/5/20...ves-to-a-seven

Furthermore, Morse's 465-foot HR off Hanson in the first inning is the longest ever in the Nationals ballpark...

Talk about some dubious honors there, Tommy...

Gio pitched (and pitched poorly) yesterday, so no worries.

Game 1: Sheets vs Edwin Jackson
Game 2: Delgado vs John Lannan (first start of the season)
Sunday: Jurrjens vs Ross Detwiler

Is it sad that Sheets is probably the best bet among those three? Or maybe I'm being unfair to Randall here...

Well, Delgado is the one in the minors and the only one with a losing record (4-9).... He's had really good games, and REALLY bad games.

Angels are coming on strong lately, huh? Pujols is up to .281 and 17 HRs on the year (.315 and 5 HRs in July), and we all know how Trumbo and Trout are doing... (both homered again tonight, Jeezus)

You probably should have posted this a month ago, when they were only 2.5 games back of the Rangers and were on a ridiculous tear.

Since they've been playing roughly 500 baseball, and are 5 games back even after winning yesterday against the Rangers.

Oh. (Well you know we folks on the East Coast are completely unaware of anything that happens on the Left Coast after we go to bed.)

Well what the hell is wrong with the Angels' pitching staff, then?

I'm really surprised that the Rangers are still in first. With most of the pitching staff going to the DL at some point and hitters slumping I figured the Angels would be a few games up by now.

CHIPPER F*CKIN' JONES BABY.

Wasn't even supposed to play in this game, got a huge standing ovation when he came up to bat in the top of the 9th as a pinch-hitter, BLASTED the first pitch over the right field wall for a 2-run HR.

C'mon Braves. Don't blow this four-run lead in the bottom of the 9th.

That was the best game of the season for the Bravos. Six shutout innings from Sheets and two more from Medlen to save the bullpen in the first game of a doubleheader.

C'mon baby. Let's keep it rollin.

The Nationals are simply an inferior team to the Braves. People got way too excited about the Nats, their bullpen is falling apart before our eyes. There is always the wild card...

Geez, I thought Ben Sheets was retired until recently. Then he makes a comeback for Atlanta and pitches 12 straight shutout innings. Unexpected but very nice.

No way dude, the Braves starting five is in utter shambles after Tim Hudson.

Tommy Hanson is the closest thing to a #2 we have; he has a 4.50 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Not too great.

After him, we have the coming-out-of-retirement/rehabilitation Ben Sheets (never mind his 0.00 ERA haha), the 6.20/1.78 Jair Jurrjens, and the 4.52/1.45 Randall Delgado (22 years old, 4-9 win loss record). I don't even know what happened to 24-year-old Mike Minor (5.69/1.39) or if he's still in the starting rotation. We keep trading somebody back down to the minors whenever they f*ck up, I think. We also have Kris Medlen who used to be a (poor) starter but now appears more in "long relief innings" type appearances.

This, of course, is all with Brandon Beachy (2.00/0.96) out for the season.

I just hope Sheets is able to keep it up. He pitched himself into some trouble today but managed to pitch himself out of it effectively every time (with the help of two doubleplay balls).

Minor is the 5th starter. Delgado is in the minors; only pitching today as the 6th starter.

Ah, yeah.
That is also true of the Nationals starting pitcher tonight. I believe I heard earlier that he was in their starting five last year. I know that I heard that he didn't make the cut to be in this year's starting five in spring training and that he's only pitching today because of the doubleheader.
