What two have been better? Only Zimmerman has a lower ERA as far as starters go for Washington. I don't think it would end their season but benching Strasburg would definitely damage their chances of making a serious playoff run. If you sit Strasburg you're likely replacing him with someone like Edwin Jackson in the playoff rotation, which is a real drop off.

MLB is a funny sport. This season could be just the start of a long-term successful Nationals franchise or it could be their one and only shot at competing for a championship. IMO you simply do not screw around with what's been a dream season. You keep the guy in the starting rotation through the playoffs. But hey, if they do go through with sitting him for the rest of the year I'll be thrilled as a Braves fan.

Just got the alert via ESPN, Melky you stupid F*ck... This one really hurts, in the thick of a pennant race and this happens, lets see how the Giants respond to this, thats a big hole in the line up to fill

That sure exlpains the surplus in his offensive output this year

Cheaters are gonna cheat. Melky Cabrera of the SF giants suspended 50 games. This is the same guy who was the All Star Game MVP in KC this year.

There is not a set number of times a player is tested. Players are tested a minimum of twice in a season, with every player tested once in spring training and once randomly in the regular season. In addition the league performs about 1,200 additional random tests on various players throughout the season. It's impossible to know when Cabrera tested positive because the league doesn't suspend players until they've exhausted all their appeals and who knows how long that takes.

they are idiots yes....worse, theyre cheaters....knowing how much testing, how risky it is etc....pretty damn ballsy...id imagine a TON of players still do drugs and are just staying ahead of the testing curve.... pretty sad though

random though...does any sport retain blood samples for years on end to test in the future like the Olympics does?

they take blood samples and keep them on ice for years because the drug testing will always be behind the new drugs they can make

They should just ban any one using it for LIFE....contract ends... That should deter players from using it.
